Superhero Thank You Cards

Welcome back! That’s both for you and for me! I finally made a couple of cards for the first time in weeks! It only took three days and several do-overs, but it sure felt good to be transforming plain old paper into something fun and beautiful again!!

I started out fairly simple, but wasn’t happy with the watercolor sky. (nor that I managed to get some on the inside. Fortunately, the recipient won’t mind.)

I like how shiny her little gold crown turned out!

The next one got a little more challenging with an animated inside, as you’ll see in a bit.

I like the blended Distress inks for the sky better, don’t you?!

Here’s the card in action (click on the image below to start the video):

I also love that amazing holographic paper… just perfect for a South Florida vibe!…

Supplies:

  • Altenew – Cityscape A & B cover dies
  • Altenew – Signature Words dies
  • Spellbinders – Palm Trees die
  • Motion Crafts by Uchi’s Design – Super Friends stamp set (SMS)
  • Motion Crafts by Uchi’s Design – Rotary animation set
  • My Favorite Things – Peek-a-Boo Circle Windows, Jumbo
  • The Ton – Most Interesting Cardmaker stamp set
  • Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black ink
  • Gina K Designs dye inks: Black Onyx, Lipstick, Sweet Mango, Wild Dandelion
  • Marvy Uchida Le Plume II markers: 53, 103, 8, 94, 67, 49, 83,  87

  • Kuretake Zig Wink of Stella clear
  • Hunkydory Holographic Mirror paper – silver
  • Core’dinations cardstock blue and white
  • Sookwang Scor-tape

Obviously, I’m still puttering along, but I have a huge backlog of cards I need to make, so maybe I’ll get back in the groove and you’ll see more posts soon! Thanks for stopping by and for sharing your thoughts!

Floral Cat Spinner Card

Good morning and welcome to the final day of the 2018 Cat Lovers Hop! With over 175 entries already, there has been loads of amazing crafty inspiration and feline fun!

I have a fun spinner card to show you:

I love how that die looks like a ball of yarn! The little hearts at the bottom almost look like cat heads, too. It was a little daunting figuring out how to put this together as I needed to hide the spinning mechanism beneath the kitty, but I used some circle dies and foam (and baby powder to help it spin a little more freely), and got it to work. There is a small solid circle of foam underneath the white circle on the back side of kitty, glued to kitty. The pink circle on kitty is a donut, with the hole smaller than the white circle, but larger than the foam circle, allowing free movement. The pink circle was glued to the foam ring on the card, the inside of which is larger than the white circle on the kitty, allowing free movement. Totally confused? Me, too, but it works. : )

After stamping this sweet decorative cat, I colored her up using gel pens and added some glossy accents on her eyes and paws.

The inside die cut says You Make Every Day Perfect… I just cut the first e off of Perfect and cut and extra u from You and made it Purfect. I used some chalks and a sparkle pen to make the sentiment stand out a little more. (Those really are two different shades of pink cardstock, the camera doesn’t show it very well.)

I love the sweet sentiment stamped on the back!! I’m going to be using it a lot to thank the many good friends that I have!

Here is a video of the card in action (You may need to click on the email to go to the actual blog post, then click in the middle of the picture on the white arrow):

Kindness is the Way Coloring Class Cards

I’m excited to tell you about a wonderful coloring class and a gorgeous digital stamp set you can get for FREE! Yep, $0.00!! AND, if you’re reading this before August 16, 2018, you still have a few days to enter the coloring contest and win one of up to $200 in prizes! You can find the details on these two sites by the two ladies who are so generously sponsoring this little bit of KINDNESS:

I took the class and learned a lot. I tried coloring using two different sets of pencils…(and learned it’s a lot slower going than with markers, but maybe that’s because I’m more used to using markers. The first pencils I used: Spectrum Noir AquaBlend pencils (which I just colored, but was too chicken to use water to blend. maybe next time!):

See the fuchsia and pale yellow color combo? That was Inspired by Home  – the current Power Poppy Sparks Challenge…

The color combo for those gerbera daisies inspired by one of my orchids that’s currently in bloom:

20180811_231447_wm1

I then had a go with a new set of Faber-Castell Polychromos that I received as a gift. Yes, you can see lines in the border shading… I was coloring on leather covered lap desk… come to find out that made the surface too soft and it was embossing, too! Oh well, it has a distressed, shabby-chic look!

And, since this week is the first Creative Confetti Challenge at  PowerPoppyYou’re a Gem! using birthstone colors, I did the background in light emerald and added this sentiment in emerald as the leaves go so well with the flowers:

Supplies:

  • Power Poppy Kindness is the Way digital stamp set (get yours HERE)
  • Elizabeth Craft Designs A Way With Words: Thanks die by Quietfire Design
  • Spellbinders Blooming Garden Especially Made For You die by Marissa Job
  • Spectrum Noir AquaBlend pencils: Apricot, Azalea, Beeswax, Bison, Blue Marine Brunette, Carrot, Cherry, Claret, Cobalt Blue, Coral, Currant, Fossil Gray, Grapefruit, Mango, Oregano, Papaya, Persimmon, Petunia, Pineapple, Pink Tulip, Rose Sky Blue, Soft Red, Sorrel, Tobacco, Watermelon, Wheat
  • Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils: Brown Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Yellow, Cinnamon, Cobalt Blue, Crimson, Dark Naples Ochre, Fuchsia, Green Gold, Leaf Green, Light Cobalt Turquoise, Light Green Light Magenta, Light Ochre, Middle Cadmium Red, Middle Phthalo, Naples Ochre Orange Glaze, Permanent Green Olive, Pink Madder Lake, Red Voilet, Rose Carmine
  • Core’dinations cardstock: white, orange, blue, black and green
  • Scotch tape runner

Muchas Gracias!

Hola! Today I’m going Latin with the latest My Monthly Hero stamps and dies by Hero Arts. Since there are three current challenges for flowers, I chose that lovely floral die cut and the dancing mouse with flowers in her hair.

When unpacking the stamps and dies I noticed the packaging cardstock was quite pretty and, since it measures 8.5″x 6.5″, cutting it in half gave me enough for a card

I’m going to take a moment to weigh in on the new Therm-o-Web/iCraft Purple tape. I’d heard so much positive buzz about it and I always have a tough time with everything else I’ve tried to hold my dies in place… I have to say: I HIGHLY recommend this tape! It’s the perfect weight and tack for this job!! No, I don’t get any commissions from anyone for saying that. I just thought you might like to know. : )

I wanted the flowers of the die cut frame to stand out against the pretty, but busy background, so I tried filling them in with Nuvo Crystal Drops. The first layer was too transparent. After the second layer, I colored them a little darker with Copic markers to make them pop.

Another one of the challenges called for sparkle and shine… I gave their outfits and the die cut flowers plenty of accents that sparkle and shine…and even their shoes shine! (I added them to the flamenco dancing mouse with Crystal drops and Stickles.)

These cute mice just make me smile!

Materials used:

  • Hero Arts My Monthly Hero April 2018 (MH0418C) stampsv dies, and packaging
  • Hero Arts My Monthly Hero ink cube: Fiesta Red, Fiesta Yellow
  • Tsukineko Memento dye ink: Tuxedo Black
  • Copic markers: C1,3; G02; R20; RV04Y08, 13, 15;YR02, 04
  • Tonic Studios Nuvo Crystal Drops: Gloss Ripened Pumpkin, Gloss Ebony Black, Silver Lining
  • Ranger Stickles: Frosted Lace and Tropical Tangering
  • Ranger Inkssentials Glossy Accents
  • Core’dinations Cardstock: White, yellow and orange
  • Scotch permanent adhesive dots
  • Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L 3D Foam Squares

The Ton Peonies Million Thanks Card

Hello, hello! It’s time I got crackin’ on the many Thank You cards I owe. I started with the Mood Board from The Ton’s July Challenge:

The lower corner has the top and bottom flowers almost reversed with the macaroons in the middle, and most of the flowers have lots of pinks and lavender with some yellow and green. Instead of macaroons, I cut out the SHAPE of my sentiment for the middle. Here is the finished card:

I love the glamorous shiny BLING of that rose gold embossing powder!

Embossing the flowers made it easy to watercolor them with my Zig markers.

Materials used:

  • The Ton Happiness is Peonies stamp set
  • Canson L’Aquarelle Heritage Hot Pressed 140# watercolor paper
  • Tsukineko Versamark Ink
  • The Ton Couture Gilding Rose Gold embossing Powder
  • Kuretake Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens: 25,26,28,41,45,50,81
  • Core’dinations cardstock: white & black
  • Scotch adhesive tape runner

I am entering this card in the following challenges. Click on any one of them for more information on how you can play along…

I am pleased you stopped by here today! Feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you think – I always enjoy hearing from you!

Die-Versions Seaside Sunset Thank You Card

It’s time for another card for the Summer 2017 Coffee Lovers Blog Hop.

This one is for one of the fab baristas at my local Starbucks who is going away…

Isn’t that a FUN die cut?!! It was easy to watercolor. Then I used the IrRESISTible Pico Embellisher to outline the circle and on the sentiment and corners. It dries raised as if it were embossed, but has a delightful translucent shimmering gold shine.

On the inside I used more of the Starbucks stickers and a couple of coffee cup clips with the gift card holder that they give you to hold the card in place.

Materials used:

  • Die-Versions Whispers “Seaside Sunset” & Sweet Spots “Oh Thank You” dies
  • Spellbinders Antique Frame Accents dies
  • Core’dinations white cardstock
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress inks: Mowed Lawn, Mustard Seed, Peacock Feathers, Pumice Stone, Spiced Marmalade
  • Imagine Crafts IrRESISTible Pico Embellisher Gold
  • Simply Defined “Stay Put” All Purposed Liquid Adhesive
  • Starbucks stickers
  • Pigma Micron green 005 Archival Ink pen
  • The Paper Studio Flea Market Fancy Gold Coffee Cup Paper Clips

Sweet & Sassy LOL Cats Humorous Thank You Card

Hello, again, peeps! I’m back once again with another card for the Summer 2017 Coffee Lovers Blog Hop.

  20170623_CLH

This time I played around with some masking from Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps LOL Cats for this fun card in summer orange, titled: The Mystery of the Empty Cup:

This is extra funny considering that the question could be raised by either one of them… If the black cat is anything like me, I often raise my cup only to find it’s empty and I don’t recall drinking it. LOL! But as we look inside we know who the real culprit was (and why he didn’t go for the mouse)…

Materials used:

  • Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps: LOL Cats and Pick Me Up stamp sets
  • Spellbinders Card Creator A2 Filigree Delight dies
  • Memento Tuxedo Black dye ink
  • Simon Says Stamp Sunkist Hybrid ink
  • Tombow Dual Brush Pens: N15, N89, 723, 761, 873, 905, 933
  • Sakura Pigma Micron black 005 archival ink pen
  • Sakura Gelly Roll pen – white
  • Tonic Nuvo Crystal Drops Gloss Sugared Almond
  • Core’dinations cardstock: white & orange
  •  Tombow Mono adhesive

Lil Inker Designs Pawesome Kitty With Frap Interactive Thank You Card for Barista

This was supposed to be my grand finale card for tomorrow, but I was afraid I might not have time to post it, so it’s going up today. : ) Yes, there’s only just over a day left of the Spring Coffee Lovers Bloghop!

I’ve been showing my cards from the hop to my barista who is a sweetheart and always goes above and beyond with my green tea fraps, so I thought I’d make her a special little interactive thank you card:

I just LOVE this adorable Lil’ Inker Designs Kitty Hugger! (And that cool Starbucks holographic Miami Gift Card!)  The frap is just sitting there unattached and can be removed to read the Thank You note on the back. The kitty stands up by cutting a second one and gluing the heads together. (The arms and tail of the back one were removed so they wouldn’t be seen (making a scary mutant cat) and the parts that would be visible were colored in.)

I had a learning curve with coloring it tho… I was happy with how natural looking the paw pads I added turned out – until I folded them over and THEN remembered Copics bleed through. Akk! Usually it’s not a problem as I’ll be attaching what I color to something else, covering the back side. Well, just don’t think too much about how a kitty could be hugging something AND have his paw pads showing or you’ll get a brain cramp from the contortions. Lol!

There was a serendipitous moment, too… when my cutting pads are very well used, they tend to impress the markings on the back of what I’m cutting. Not usually a problem, but when I folded the arm over, I found that it added some cool fur-like texture!!

If you look closely at the pic above, you can see the ‘shelf’ I built on his left foot. I just added two pieces of cardstock straight across the ‘ankle’ and that gives the frap a shelf to rest on which, along with the bent paw, holds it in place until ready to be removed.

I wish you could see the frap in real life… It’s amazing! I colored the green tea part first, then added the Nuvo Fresh Snowfall Glitter accents and it looks nice and frosty! The whipped cream was done with a Viva Decor Perlen Pen and the straw was attached. Once dry, I die cut a piece of clear plastic from the packaging of one of my dies, lined it with Scor-tape and put it on top for a true plastic cup look.

The kitty does stand alone, but he can also sit on the gift card… one cool Miami cat!       That gives me an idea: he could be used later as a bookmark, too!

Since they were 25% off today (with Target’s Cartwheel app), I went over to get a frap, and hopefully get a pic of my barista with her gift,  but she was off today, so I just came home with a yummy pick-me-up for myself. (Nonfat milk and raspberry syrup instead of classic – yum!) I always get mine without whipped cream, but the card just looks cuter with it, don’tcha think?!

Supplies used:

  • Lil’ Inker Designs Kitty Hugger stamp and die set
  • Lil Inker Designs Coffee Talk stamp and die sets
  • Memento Tuxedo Black dye ink
  • Copic Markers: C1, 3, 5; E02; R20; RV02; YG61, 63
  • Tonic Studios Nuvo Glitter Accents: Fresh Snowfall
  • Viva Decor Perlen Pen – Ice White
  • Sookwang 2.5″ Scor-tape adhesive
  • Aleene’s Clear Gel Tacky Blue
  • Coredinations white and red cardstock
  • Misc. plastic packaging

It’s been a fun week. Thanks to everyone who was kind enough to stop by and leave some bloggie love!! I really appreciate you all!!
