CATchy MEWsic Card

Hello and thanks for your patience! I’ve been out sick again, but finally got back in the saddle with a really fun card I needed to make up for a friend. I used the current challenge prompts from A Blog Named Hero: Love is in the Air with a color palette:

Now that I’m on my computer, I see that third color is fuchsia… on my phone it looks red. I figured out it’s the phone… I took a screen shot from the pone and put it on my computer and it looks just like the one above. Crazy! Oh well, it’s close enough and still perfect for the theme. Next time I know to check the computer for truer colors!

From the minute I saw this Dancing Music Notes die, it was almost exactly what I’ve long had in mind for my Taking Note poem about the people in the symphony of our lives. I wanted the poem written across a flowing staff with pictures of people’s faces in the notes. I have tried and tried to fit it in, but it just looks too crowded…

I guess I’ll have to just print it out in a pretty font on the inside of the card… unless I can talk Hero Arts into making this into an 8×10 die and printing my poem on a stamp, too! lol! For this card I specifically wanted this lovely sentiment on the inside:

At least my other idea for this die worked… having cats playing across the music staff… so fun! My favorite is the white kitty in the lower right who’s resting with her paw linked through a musical rest symbol! To get the reverse image of the dangling kitty I stamped him off on a flat rubber stamp and stamped that onto paper. Since the impression was light, I traced over it with an ultra fine pen. I didn’t worry about the umbrella piece showing… It just looks like part of his paw. I may have gone a little overboard with the hearts, but to me they represent their fabulous musical purrs. The sentiments seemed a little lost after I added the hearts, so I outlined them with the black ultrafine marker. If I could have put my hands on a paw-print stamp, I’d’ve probably put one in each note, and then it would’ve been WAY too busy, so it’s a good thing I couldn’t find one handy.

Supplies used:

  • Hero Arts Dancing Music Notes Confetti Die
  • Hero Arts Raining Cats and Dogs stamps and dies
  • Hero Arts MMH04-18 & Cinco de Meow stamp sets (feel the MEWsic)

Darling House Mouse Cards

Hello and welcome! Today I have a set of darling House Mouse cards to share with you.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I’ve been trying to keep up with #TheDailyMarker30Day coloring challenge this month. This time around I’ve tried to stretch my coloring skills, and ventured into doing some skies with Copic markers.

Previously, after finishing coloring the main image in Copics, I’ve used chalks for the sky because I would get streaks and unevenness trying to do a sky with Copic markers. I think I’m finally getting the hang of it! On this first card I was also pleased to get a bit of reflection of the walnut in the water, with a natural ripple look, too:

Love the sheen of these DCWV Shimmer Stack papers!! For the inside, I dry embossed the dye (you’ll see it better in the next cards) and used the cutout center as a decorative element:

On the second card, I added some rain to the sky. Here in Florida, it can be both rainy and sunny with a blue sky while raining, rain on one side of the street, but not the other, etc., so I didn’t feel like I needed clouds. I didn’t have a good terracotta color in my Copic collection, but I found that RV 34 and R22 mix together nicely for a close match.

Since part of the die impression reminds me of suns, I ran over the raised ‘suns’ with some yellow chalk and added this little guy celebrating, with my own sentiment:

For the final card, I decided to switch the ice cream color from pink to strawberry-flavored red to match the cardstock. The House Mouse stamps have names for most all of their critters. The bunnies are Hop-it and Itty Bit. I love that little Itty Bit fell asleep in a sugar coma before he got his face and paws cleaned off! : ) I also like that the frame die kind of reminds me of a waffle cone pattern! Since my hands were actually steady today, I took a chance on writing my own sentiment:

Here’s the inside:

Set of Humorous Art Impressions ICU Step Cards

Greetings, crafty peeps! Unfortunately, it’s that time of the year when folks are getting sick and ending up in the hospital. I started this set a while back and kept needing to send off a card, so I couldn’t get the complete finished set in a picture. Here are most of them… almost finished… right before I sent off the second one:

They just make me smile!! Hope they do the same for the recipients!

First, I colored the couples up, wanting to be able to choose from a rainbow of ladies with different colored hair. Next time I want to add in some olive and dark skinned ladies, too.

Then I added some glossy accents to the eyes, lips & earrings, and to the purse and shoes for a patent leather look.

Next, I matched each lady up with a matching cardstock for the step card base and found some decorative paper to match for the background. Then I sewed the ‘curtain’ to a piece of cardstock and attached everything to the card, added the heartbeat cutout and sentiment and the front of the card was done:

Here’s a side view:

On the back, where the heart is (on this particular step card die), I added the sentiment: “Hope you’ll soon be fully re-covered!” and one of the left-over hearts from the heartbeat die cut. The envelope says: “Sending a little laughter… it’s the BEST medicine!”

Hello My Favorite Nuts Acorn Shaker with Gift Card

Hello, again! I’m glad you’ve returned! Today’s card is a shaker with a surprise:

Those of you who follow me, may recall THIS card with a similar concealed surprise. I just love that the Spellbinders Die-of-the-Month acorn can be turned into a gift card holder for these fun acorn-shaped gift cards from that coffee shop that ends in BUCK$!

And the Queen & Company Happy Harvest Fall Kit has those fab acorn shakers to match. This time the shaker is filled with fabulous mini ‘gems.’ Observation: The gorgeous glitter paper in that kit is made so well that the glitter won’t rub off, but that also means it’s not really the best for intricate dies, like the Hello Fall insert of this acorn die. It simply doesn’t want to cut clear through. I recommend using it for non-intricate cutting. The leaf also gets added dimension when you score the veins. The acorns get some realistic color with a dauber and some Distress inks.

What else is behind that acorn?….

This darling family! I love that the two squirrels/chipmunks in the acorn are hugging, with coffee in hand… something that has led to many a spill in this family! And the mugs have kitty paw prints on them and a stuffed kitty is lying on the floor… another signature of our family. The sentiment: ‘You are my favorite nuts’ – ever so apropos! By cutting them out of separate cardstock, I was able to color them with Copics and not have them bleed through to the back of the card. It also allowed me to fussy cut around the arms and put them through the cup handles.

By the way… didja notice that acorns, just like humans, come in all varieties?! : )

Materials used:

  • Spellbinders Small Die of the Month – October 2018
  • Queen & Co.  Happy Harvest Fall Kit (dies, foam, clear plastic, paper, glitter paper and beads)
  • Neat & Tangled My Favorite Nut stamps & dies; Puppy’s Favorite Things stamps
  • Core’dinations cardstock: white, brown, kraft, yellow
  • Recollections card base
  • Tsukineko Memento Desert Sand dye ink
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Inks: Spiced Marmalade, Rusty Hinge, Barn Door, Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain
  • Copic Markers: E13, 23, 25, 29, 31, 55, 71;Y38; YR02, 04, 07, 24; W1
  • Simply Defined Permanent adhesive runner & Stay-Put adhesive glue

Coffee Lovers: Thanks a Pool-Sized Latte! Card

Have you ever wondered what it’d be like to wake up one winter morning to have the ground covered in snow and your pool full of hot coffee with cute little foam animals floating all over? ‘Dive in!’ you say?! The current Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge: B is for ? = Big, Bodacious Blue pool full of coffee with foam Bears (and cats)!! That’s where my crazy imagination took me for today’s Coffee Lovers Hop card:

The hand drawn and fussy-cut pool of ‘coffee’ has a liquid look due to glossy accents:

The inside of the card and the back of the envelope continue the theme:

The ‘Thanks a pool-sized latte!’ sentiment was done on the computer. To get the soft singed edges on the foam critters, I used Polychromos pencils and Gamsol.

Supplies:

  • Hero Arts Foam Animals stamp set
  • Tsukineko Memento Desert Sand dye ink
  • Faber-Castell Polychromos colored pencils:Cobalt Green; Light Cobalt Turquoise; Caput Mortuum Violet; Burnt Sienna; Raw Umber
  • Gamblin Artists Gamsol & Q-tips

T-I-double g-Rrr… Wobble Tigger Easel Card! Hoo-hoo!

Welcome to my final post for the 2018 Cat Lovers Hop! Yes, your inboxes will finally get a break from this cat card blitz. >^.^< Wohoo! We’ve surpassed our previous record and have over 200 entries in the hop already this year and there’s still half a day to go!!

This card sums up my feelings about the Cat Lovers Hop pretty well!

For a change, I’m going to start with the back of the card:

Knowing me, I’ll probably write a few funny lines back here like, “I wonder where I put the car keys?” or “I wonder where I left my glasses?” : )

When you open it up, it becomes a stand-up card easel-y (I just HAD to put the pun in!) using that pretty easel base by Anna Griffin, :

To get the leaves filled out with some depth and texture, I die cut the ornate frame and then embossed it into some green cardstock, too. I fussy cut along the outside, cutting straight across the top where the easel die would be attached. Then I affixed the die-cut piece over it and colored it up with chalks.

To hold the card in place, I put some felt cobblestones on the path. Tah-dah!

I was going to color Tigger, but thought it might be easier to just cut out the parts I would need in the corresponding colors and emboss the background for his stripes. It involved a little bit of fussy cutting but looks grrreat (oops! wrong tiger!).

Here he is bobbing around in all his glory on that tail that’s made out of springs… Bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy, fun, fun, fun, fun, fun!:

Supplies:

  • Character World: Disney, Winnie the Pooh: Tigger die
  • Anna Griffin Ornate Frames & Easy Easel dies
  • Mama Elephant Hooray die
  • Technique Tuesday DIY Say It Hugs
  • Recollections 100# cream cardstock,
  • Core’dinations 65# black, green, pink, orange & yellow cardstock

  • Simon Says Stamp Action Wobble mini spring
  • Anna Griffin Pretty Prose vellum sticker quotes

  • Creatology embossed felt – cobblestone copper canyon
  • Aleene’s Original Tacky glue

Well, that brings the 2018 Cat Lovers Hop to a close – for me, anyway…. this cat’s tuckered out! Don’t forget to get your comments in for all of the giveaways before 11:59pm Sunday, October 27, 2018. For those of you counting the Spellbinders dies used, this completes my projects (Hint: there were non used on this card. lol!) I had someone ask if it was dies or sets, so I’ll clarify: It’s the number of different SETS. You can tell them apart by their names! Please be sure to look at my actual blog posts and not your email versions as I had to update a couple. Sorry.

The Aristocats – Everybody Wants to Be A Cat Pivot Pop-Up Card

What is it that everybody wants to be? If you remember the tune from the 1970 Disney movie, The Aristocats (Yes, I know a lot of you hoppers weren’t even born back then, but surely you’ve seen this cute film!), you know that it fits purr-fectly with the Cat Lovers Hop!

I will admit that I got stumped after I made the inside and had stamped Roquefort the mouse on the front looking in at Berloiz on the phonograph, I could’t think of what to put on the front of the card. I had thought of putting something about losing something since the song inside continues, “because a cat’s the only cat who knows where it’s at!’ (Oh, yeah!) But I couldn’t really think of anything that really worked. Then I was looking for some musical note stamps and remembered the Hero Arts My Monthly Hero from April and the Cinco de Meow stamp sets and used “Gato feel the Mewsic!” Which is a fun play on the Spanish word for cat (gato) which can sound similar to ‘got to.’ Still, I’d love to hear if you have any good ideas for a cover sentiment as I’m sure I’ll be making this card again! Please let me know!!

I happen to like several features about this card. First: the cover cardstock. I don’t know how long JoAnn’s new line called Park Lane has had this 110# marbled cardstock, but it’s fabulous (they have other patterns, too)! The core and back side are white which is perfect for the inside of cards and 110# feels like a ‘real’ card. I’m hooked!!

TIP: When using the pivot pop-up, don’t forget to leave the card area smooth in the two spots where the corners will be brushing against it as they go up and down. (as in it catches just slightly on the edge of the frame… I should have left the inside frame off.)

Also, things can hang over the ‘mountain’ edges of the pop up panels if you don’t glue them down…  and don’t go beyond the edges of the card when folded down.

I also love that Berloiz on the phonograph disappears as you open the card and it pivots for the pop up panels! where scat cat and his gang, along with the kittens are feeling the beat as O’Malley is mesmerized by Duchess’ sapphire eyes. I will definitely be making an anniversary card with them and his famous quote: ‘Why, your eyes are like sapphires sparkling so bright. They make the morning radiant and light!’ : )

I had thought to made the background a night sky using the paper I marbled with Marabu Easy Marble (see THIS post if you missed it), but then I decided to put in the window and that didn’t work. (Although I did ponder a bit over whether I could have something like a shooting star on the front of the card swing down into the window when you open it. But I already had smoke coming out of my head trying to make the window just right for the phonograph stamp. Lol!) So now it’s just some wild wallpaper… typical of Scat cat and his gang! By the way… did you see notice how the gold shines?!!

Of course, the card wouldn’t be complete without Napoleon asserting his rank! I printed the adapted quote on label paper, then die-cut it. Peel & stick is so easy… Hmmm… I think I should use label paper more often! : )

Here’s a video of the card in action. If you get this post as an e-mail, you will need to click on the post title to see it online, then scroll down and find this picture again and click in the middle of it (there should be a white arrow):

Supplies:

  • Character World Disney Aristocats: The Finest in Paris, Scat Cat & His Gang of Alley Cats dies and Aristocats A6 stamp set
  • Karen Burniston Twist Panel Pop-Up die set
  • Spellbinders Conversation Bubble 3 and Sing It Loud 1 dies
    • Note… for those of you counting Spellbinders dies… I had to go back and edit the post on the Art Impressions Kitten Vanity PopCard… that was Conversation Bubble 1… Just sayin’ : )

Chocolate Keeps You Safe! Fun Fat Cat Card

Hello again! I’m back with a humorous card for the Cat Lovers Hop.

A few months back our whole family went on a diet and each successfully shed scores of pounds. However, my folks recently hit a plateau. To congratulate them on their accomplishment, and encourage them to keep up the good work with some humor, I send them this fun card:

I think these two cats are safe, don’t you?!! I love how shiny the Brilliance ink is when stamping with it! To help it stand out, I just lightly colored the kitties with some chalks:

The Liquid Pearls make the chocolate look almost edible (if slightly melted)… Gotta love those fun Technique Tuesday Sassy sentiments! : )

Of course, I was so excited to send it to them, I was already writing in it when I remembered to take a pic… just ignore my scribbling (thx)!

I love that stamped sentiment: Did you ever notice there are no recipes for leftover chocolate?! So true! (and you notice the chocolate is gone except for the wrapper and a couple of crumbs)

On the back, there’s a little pocket for a gift card for them to get some new ‘skinny’ clothes:

Supplies:

  • Penny Black: 9 Lives stamp set
  • Technique Tuesday: Sassy Bday & Sassy Hangry
  • Spellbinders: Labels 40 Decorative Accents dies
  • Justrite dies: Filigree Corners
  • Recollections white cardstock

  • Pebbles, Inc. Pearlescent Chalks – Jewel Tones

Hello, there! I’m so glad you could stop by as I have some cool summer fun to share with you today! Go grab some ice cream, this is a long one. Just sayin’!  For some reason I couldn’t get my brain to work on saying things succinctly. (Plus there are 4 cards this time.) So I won’t be offended if you just take a quick scroll through the pics. : )

First let me start with a story. A long time ago our family developed a code word for ice-cream. It seems someone in the family was always getting flowers when they were sick or needed cheering up and one day they finally admitted… ‘I sure would be cheered up a lot more if it was ICE CREAM instead of flowers!’ So, from then on whenever this person was sick we’d ask, ‘would FLOWERS cheer you up?’ and if they said ‘yes’, they got ice cream. Now the whole family uses FLOWERS as code for ICE CREAM. It really does make us feel better! Of course if you get BOTH… that’s just a win-win! : ) When I saw this ‘Ice Cream solves Everything’ sentiment I KNEW I had to make up a card for you-know-who! Who knows, maybe it’ll catch on and some day Mirriam-Webster will have a footnote under ‘flowers’ that says “n. – slang for ice cream in the early 21st century’ Hahahaha!

Of course now that I’ve told the story I see that I should have made a sliding sentiment that said FLOWERS solve everything on top and pulls out to say ICE CREAM! Per usual, I have 20/20 hindsight!! Next time!

The card was based on a sketch from the Inky Paws Challenge #77:

Too bad I finished the card the day AFTER that challenge closed = I needed ice cream to ease the disappointment! Just look at these two darling kitties sharing a yummy ice cream cone!

(card #1 above) I have always wanted to do one of these backgrounds where part is colored and part is b&w, so decided to try that. I find it daunting to try to randomly stamp a background, but I tried a couple on regular paper until I got one that I liked and put it in the MISTI and laid my stamp on top of each place I’d stamped, picked it up and restamped it. I was able to crank out 4 copies in relatively quick time.

I didn’t want to cover up too much of the background, so, to make the kitties licking their ice cram cone stand out, I cut out some black paper just a bit larger than they are and put it behind them (I had already put the foam underneath them to pop them up, so the black shadow is down on the card base, making it ever more shadow-y.) Glossy Accents and Liquid pearls help the ice cream look more realistic.

Since the current Monday Challenge at Simon Says Stamp is Sprinkles & Splatters, 20180813_SSm I really wanted the sprinkles to pop, so added Nuvo Drops to them and to the kitty noses, tongues (love those cute little lapping tongues!!) and paws. To get Mrs. Calico Kitty’s tail in reverse, I just traced the back side of the stamped image on a light box.

Making the kitty cone: I was in JoAnn Fabrics when they had their 75% off sale and found these cute beads… I thought looked like kittens (they say they’re mice so I added a more kitty-like nose and mouth with a Sakura Identi pen, which stayed on the ceramic (whereas the Sakura Pigma Micron whisker extensions I’d done wiped off the next day), and some pink to the inner ears with a Copic) They reminded me of the kitty cones on my card, so I went looking for something that would look like a waffle cone. I found a Utility Cotton Fabric called, amazingly, Waffle Weave! I drew a semi-circle on a piece of tagboard from a cereal box and cut it out, then cut the fabric slightly larger, and then glued it to the tagboard, folding the edged over and gluing them to the back side. Then I curled it into a cone and glued it together. Once dry, I colored in the debossed waffle squares with a Copic marker. Using a headpin, I made a loop at the top of the kitty and hot glued it in place and hot glued the kitty snuggled inside the ‘waffle cone’. I added some pearlescent seed beads to make the kitty cones hang lower than keys and added a couple of pawprint charms and they were good to go.

I recently told my friend that I remembered after my first day of school, mom would always take me to DQ and that gave me something to look forward to all day… Yep, ice cream solves the tedium of that interminable long first day of school! So I decided to make another card and keychain for my friend’s daughter for her first day of school this week. They had ice cream cones after her first day of school, too! A great tradition has started!! That fits perfectly with the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge for this week: Back to School.

Back to School is also the theme for the current MarkerPoP! Challenge #138  This time I used fancier beads on her keychain and another I made for someone else:

Aren’t those kitty cones just darling? I love that they match the stamps!!

The CURRENT Inky Paws Challenge (#78) is Summer/Beach.

Since I had more backgrounds with my summer ice cream, I kept on doing cards with that same layout from the previous Inky Paws Challenge. As I’d used the new Finesse alcohol-proof dye ink by Spectrum Noir to stamp the backgrounds, I wanted to try using alcohol inks on them and decided to try Spectrum Noir basics and Copics. FYI, they both worked fine and the Finesse ink didn’t bleed at all.

The Spectrum Noir sheet was a bit darker than I wanted, so I decided to use vellum over most of it. To take a break from coloring, I left this kitty white.

(Card #2 above) Can’t quite place that tag die? I wanted a nice fishtail tag, but the only one I had (Spellbinders Decorative Swallowtail Tags) was too tall, so I snipped it down and ended up with a leftover decorative accent for another project…

20180812_185625_wm

For the Copic background, I die cut it and an uncolored sheet together at the same time so they’d be cut exactly the same and made two cards with the partially colored technique…

(Card #4 & 3 above) These will make nice little gift sets!

On the inside and backs of each card, I used a light ink nearly matching the cardstock for a watermark stamp. It’s so light the camera can barely pick it up, but it can be seen IRL. That said, I will admit that the first one I got so enthusiastic in writing that I wrote over the stamped image forgetting it was there, so it is VERY light. lol! I think next time I’ll do it a smidge darker! The inside has a kitty with a giant 4 scoop cone and says “You make life sweet!” I hesitated to show you this but now it’s a funny story so here we go…

Yeah, I don’t blame you if you can’t see it! The back has two kitty cones and says: “This card was handmade by” leaving room for my signature logo. (I really need to get that made into a stamp some day!)

I saved the best for last… I’m hoping my coloring on this pair reminds you of two famous kitties… can you guess their names?!

Hint: >^.^< N—–   and >^.^< H—– (btw: I love how the light hits that cone making a white streak… Note to self: next time draw in a white line just like that!)

p.p.s Owning yet another oops… the back of one card managed to get into some of that Liquid Pearls Chocolate and Glossy Accents splattered and smeared across it. I just added a note around the stains: “It wouldn’t be realistic without a little chocolate stain and cat spit, would it?!!” : )

Let’s Be Purr-Maids 3D Collapsible Tunnel Card

Hi, all! I’m excited to show you today’s project!! I have a friend who loves cats and she likes mermaids, too… in fact she and her husband like watching some of the Australian mermaid shows. So this card was just purr-fect for her. The timing was also perfect as the current Inky Paws Challenge #78 is: Summer/Beach Theme.

Here we go….

I know, right?!! CATs as mermaids… everyone has dreams! I love the ombre blues leading back to that fabulous wave. (which, together with the sun and birds fits the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge – Make Your Own Background.) All the layers made it easy to stack in a tropical coconut drink,, sand dollar, starfish and a crab in a fishing net to give the scene added depth. I even stuck a cat’s paw shell on the front, along with a baby scallop shell.

The current Emerald Creek Dare is The Great Outdoors #27-40, and this fits perfectly since in Florida the Great outdoors is definitely at the beach! For the mermaids’ tails, I used Rita Barakat ‘s new Magical Mysteries – Mermaid Fin embossing powder by Emerald Creek Craft Supplies in Canada. (Watch THIS page for them… coming soon! (Not wanting to wait, I got mine from Rita’s shop.))  I did the tail diving into the water first and was disappointed that a lot of it came out clear (but it was still nifty)….  Seems I hadn’t mixed it up well enough and the second one looks just fin… I mean fine! : )

Look carefully at the angle of the tail in back diving into that fabulous wave…  now turn the card around to the back for the surprise….

There she is coming out the other side! : )  By the way… my friend AND her husband loved it! In her thank-you note she said: A. immediately put it on display in our family room, which is high honor from a guy who won’t let anything extra sit out to clutter the room!

The other cool thing is that this card is collapsible and can fold down flat for shipping:
