Perk Up! Card and Suncatcher

It’s time for the 2020 Fall/Winter Coffee Lovers Blog Hop!

As I’ve been overwhelmed with family health issues, I haven’t done much crafting this year, but I did make one fun project that I’ve saved for this hop:

This sweet faux stained-glass suncatcher is hidden inside this card:

Nice, bold fall colors!

Ever since I got the A Jillian Vance Grandpa’s Glass: Cup of Love die and stamp, I’ve wanted to make a stained glass suncatcher. I learned a few things while making it….

I used StazOn to stamp on the plastic. I could have re-stamped it, but it was enough for what I needed. JudiKins cleaner does a good job of removing the ink and the stain left behind will not affect the stamp.

Nuvo Crystal Drops in Ebony Black, Gloss served as the ‘lead’ outline.

I was excited to try Nuvo Jewel Drops, but was disappointed to find that that only the Strawberry (more orange), Orange Marmalade (more yellow) kept any color… Lemoncello, Periwinkle, Rosewater and SeaBreeze dried practically clear, so I switched to more opaque Nuvo Crystal Drops for the cup (Navy Blue and Midnight Blue with Apple Green mixed with Woodland Green for the green tea look)

I solved the problem using Copic Markers to color the clear areas. Better! But there was one problem I hadn’t foreseen…

! S – D – R – A – W – K – C – A – B

Oops! Solution….

Just cut off the bottom!

I hear it’s still hanging in the green-tea-loving recipient’s window, so the colors must be ok and the Nuvo Drops haven’t melted off the plastic after several weeks. So, despite a few set-backs, I’m pleased with the end result.

Have fun with the rest of the Coffee Lovers Hop!

Muchas Gracias!

Hola! Today I’m going Latin with the latest My Monthly Hero stamps and dies by Hero Arts. Since there are three current challenges for flowers, I chose that lovely floral die cut and the dancing mouse with flowers in her hair.

When unpacking the stamps and dies I noticed the packaging cardstock was quite pretty and, since it measures 8.5″x 6.5″, cutting it in half gave me enough for a card

I’m going to take a moment to weigh in on the new Therm-o-Web/iCraft Purple tape. I’d heard so much positive buzz about it and I always have a tough time with everything else I’ve tried to hold my dies in place… I have to say: I HIGHLY recommend this tape! It’s the perfect weight and tack for this job!! No, I don’t get any commissions from anyone for saying that. I just thought you might like to know. : )

I wanted the flowers of the die cut frame to stand out against the pretty, but busy background, so I tried filling them in with Nuvo Crystal Drops. The first layer was too transparent. After the second layer, I colored them a little darker with Copic markers to make them pop.

Another one of the challenges called for sparkle and shine… I gave their outfits and the die cut flowers plenty of accents that sparkle and shine…and even their shoes shine! (I added them to the flamenco dancing mouse with Crystal drops and Stickles.)

These cute mice just make me smile!

  • Hero Arts My Monthly Hero April 2018 (MH0418C) stampsv dies, and packaging

Papertrey Ink 11th Anniversary Floral Challenge – Hello Card

Hello my patient peeps! These constant headaches are still cramping my style, but at least I was able to make a card again. Yay!

It’s Papertrey Ink’s 11th Anniversary (congrats!!)  and their Day 1 Challenge was to use one of their designer’s sketches.

Edited to add… hahaha… the joke is on me… blame it on 10 weeks of daily migraines, but the 11th Anniversay Sketch challenge already closed. No matter, the Day 4 Floral Challenge is open and this fits. Hooray!

I chose Dawn McVey’s sketch and decided to use her take on it as inspiration, too.

This was my first time using stencil brushes and I really LOVE ’em! SO much easier than using a blending tool!! When my head gets better, I’ll tell you all about them.

After coloring and fussy cutting the flowers and leaves, I cut into them so I could curl up the edges more easily and then popped them up with Scotch adhesive dots. The only ‘extra pieces I cut out and added where the two center petals on each flower to bring them out further than the Flower Soft stamens.

I also used Nuvo Crystal Drops on top of my die cut ‘hello’ to give it a shiny, puffy-sticker look. Note to self: next tim,e do this on a craft sheet first so if your tremor takes it out of the lines, you can cut it off!

I also stamped a couple of the smaller flowers on the inside.

Materials used:

  • Papertrey Ink In Bloom Stamp set, Swoosh dies, Quatrefoil cover plate die cut (for stencil, with an Spellbinders Grand Oval die cut overlay)
  • Tsukineko Memento dye inks: Tuxedo Black, New Sprout, Rhubarb Stalk
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Ink – Spiced Marmalade
  • Copic Markers: G99; R22,24,29; Y 13,15; YG61;63
  • Nuvo Crystal Drops Gloss Ebony Black
  • Core’dinations cardstock: White & Black & Parisian Nights card
  • Scotch adhesive runner and adhesive dots (medium)
  • Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue

I’m playing along with the following challenges – click on any one of them for more information on how you can join the fun:

There are many more challenges in PTI’s 11th Anniversary celebration. We’ll see in how many my head allows me to participate. You may want to check out their blog for more info as there are great prizes up for grabs!

Thank you for stopping by today… I always enjoy reading your sweet comments!

Another Art Impressions Humorous ICU Step Card

Hello and welcome back! I had my post-op follow up yesterday and all is proceeding well. I made another fun card for the surgeon and his staff…

This time I had a little more time to play around with the curtain to get it in shape. I think I like this version better than the one I showed you a few days ago. Even though it folds up uneven, it will probably be displayed open, so I made it come up even with the rest of the card – when open and looking straight on.

I gave the lady more blue hair as that’s the norm down in South Florida – as are both of their shapes. lol! And, of course, there’s lots of bling, glitter and gloss!

I love making him look embarrassed with red cheek and ears and his eyes bugging out!

Materials used:

  • Art Impressions Get Well stamp set
  • Sizzix Card, Hearts Step-Up die
  • SugarPea Designs Heart Beat SugarCut die
  • DCWV The Luxury Stack shimmer paper
  • Core’dinations cardstock: red, blue & white
  • Tsukineko Versamark Ink
  • Inkadinkado embossing powder – black
  • Memento dye ink – Tuxedo Black
  • Copic Markers: B05, 21,29; BG13,15; C3; E000,00,02; R24,29
  • Tonic Studios Nuvo Crystal Drops: Gloss Red Berry
  • Ranger Inkssentials Glossy Accents
  • Kuretake Zig Wink of Stella clear
  • Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L tape runner
  • Simply Defined ‘Stay Put’ Glue
  • Misc. Seafoam gauze material (Hobby Lobby), thread

Art Impressions Humorous ICU Step Card

Hello, dear peeps!

I’m glad to be back home recuperating from my surgery. Thank you all for your kind wishes and notes!

I wanted to share with you the fun step card I made for the very caring nursing staff at the hospital:

Hahaha! Ahhh, those breezy hospital gowns!

(Oops, I see I took this pic before I took out the temporary gathering stitches on the curtain. Ha! I was rushing to get it done before I left for surgery, and the card’s gone on to its new home now.)

The current Art Impressions challenge (#212) is: Bling, Glitter or Glossy. Take a closer look at her glossy patent leather bag and shoes and glittery coat, eyeshadow and hair, and bling earrings:

She certainly makes a bold statement & fits Simon Says Stamp’s Monday Challenge: Red, White and/or Blue.

To make the step card easily, I used the Sizzix Hearts Step-Up die, but folded the first two hearts back down and used the third to help hold the curtain. Easy-peasy! I was in a bit of a quandary about the curtain… With the card open, it looks taller, but folds up it’s even with the left side. I could have made it a smidge shorter when it folds up so that it sits even when opened… what you think???

Materials used:

  • Art Impressions Get Well stamp set
  • Sizzix Card, Hearts Step-Up die
  • Spellbinders Conversation Speech Bubble One Dies
  • SugarPea Designs Heart Beat SugarCut die
  • Lawn Fawn Perfectly Plaid Rainbow Petite Paper Pack
  • Core’dinations cardstock: red, blue & white
  • Memento dye ink – Tuxedo Black
  • Copic Markers: B21,29; BG13,15; C1,3; E00,02; R21,25
  • Pebbles, Inc. Chalk
  • Tonic Studios Nuvo Crystal Drops: Gloss White & Morning Dew
  • Kuretake Zig Wink of Stella clear
  • Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L tape runner
  • Simply Defined ‘Stay Put’ Glue
  • Misc. Seafoam gauze material (Hobby Lobby), thread

Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop – Get Well Card

It’s that time of year again! The Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop kicks off today. Yay!

The worst part of summer? Summer colds!! What could cheer one up more than an hot cuppa coffee or tea,a yummy short stack and some sunny summer flowers in bed?!!

I thing that Breakfast in Bed tray die from SugarPea Designs is genius! Their current challenge is Mix It Up:

I faded the red to pink and used lots of circles – plus the roses on the ‘bedspread’ reminded me of those roses. Simon Says Stamps Wednesday Challenge is to use patterned paper: I had started off with some chevron paper from Fancy Pants Design as I was going to make a quilt to cover the bed. (More on that in a minute). For the paper-pieced items on the tray I had to place a couple of pieces together with scotch tape and then die-cut. You don’t notice the seam unless you look close.

Unfortunately, the quilt didn’t look right… the tray kind of got lost on it. Well, when you think about it – who has dishes that match their bedspread?!! lol! So I chose a muted floral pattern for my bedspread. The wood paneled walls are made from the packaging of the Fancy Pants ephemera and buttons sets… They outta make that pattern into cardstock, I love it!! The pillow and tissues are made from a real Puffs tissue.

Materials used:

  • SugarPea Designs: Breakfast in Bed stamps & SugarCut dies
  • Fancy Pants Designs: As You Wish collection: Button pack (button & packaging), Ephemera pack (packaging), This & That paper (inside tray, dishes, teapot & tissue box) and Well Traveled paper (outside of tray)
  • The Paper Studio: Eloise Floral paper (bedspread)
  • Core’dinations white cardstock (flowers & pancakes)
  • Foray 30# translucent Inkjet Vellum (flower vase)
  • Memento Rose Bud dye ink
  • Tombow Dual Brush Pens: 059, 195, 296, 933, 942, 977
  • Tsukineko Versamark ink
  • Stampendous PEARLustre embossing powder: Rose Quartz
  • Tsukineko Radiant Neon Amplify: white (whipped topping)
  • Tonic Studios Nuvo Crystal Drops: Morning Dew (syrup and coffee/tea)
  • Offray Stylish Accents: Elegant Loop Flower w/ Pearl (‘throw pillow’)
  • Recollections: Lace on a Roll (around pillow & on button)
  • Tombow Xtreme and Mono permanent adhesives
  • Misc: Foam dot, Lace, Puffs tissue, Scotch tape

I am participating in the following hops and challenges. Click on any one of them for more information on how you can join the fun!

I’d hoped to do a belated blogiversary giveaway sometime soon, but haven’t been well enough and now I have meet with the surgeon on Monday. So, perhaps in a few weeks when I’m better we’ll have a party! You might want to be subscribed to my blog so you don’t miss it! (hint-hint) Meanwhile, I’ll be back tomorrow with another fun card for the Coffee Lovers Hop. Hope to see you then! Happy hopping!!

MFT Camp Create Day 4: Sensational Sliders – Hilarious ‘Ruff Day’ Card

Hello and welcome! Today’s project is from Day 4 of My Favorite Things Camp Create: Sensational Sliders.

I love interactive, touchy-feely cards! This one took a little extra measuring since I didn’t have the Blueprint plate used in the demo, but it was worth it! I left a 3/4″ edge around the 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ card, cutting two 4 inch sides and one 2 3/4 side with a semi-circle traced from a AA battery in the middle.

And when you pull the slider open:

I know it’s kind of yucky, but it still cracks me up! Here’s a behind-the-scenes look… After blending in the ink for the sidewalk, grass and sky (each masked off as I went), I spritzed a little water and then randomly flicked in some grass blades.

Here’s another reason why the We R Memory Keepers Precision Press has a slight advantage over the MISTI:

For the peepee I used the Nuvo Morning Dew Crystal Drops that dry clear and, when dry, I ran a yellow Copic marker over it.

Now, here’s a test… Did you happen to notice the dog’s name? If you missed it, you can scroll back to the first picture…. Yep, a true Boca Ratonian! I know another one called Dee-Oh-Gee…. think about it… say it slow…! : )

Materials used:

  • My Favorite Things: BB You Make My Tail Wag stamps
  • Core’dinations white cardstock
  • Memento Tuxedo Black dye ink
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Inks: Mowed Lawn, Old Paper, Tumbled Glass
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Ink pen: Twisted Citron
  • Copic markers:
    • Doghouse: C1,3,5,7; R24, 29
    • Dog: E13, 23, 25, 31, 33, W1
    • Hydrant: C1, 3, Y17, 35
  • Tonic Studios Nuvo Crystal Drops: Morning Dew
  • Pigma Micron 005 Archival ink pen: Black
  • Tombow Xtreme permanent adhesive

This earns the 4th Camp Create badge:

Altenew Creative Watercolor Media Class – Lesson 6

Well, it’s time for my card from the final lesson of  Altenew’s Creative Watercolor Media Class.

Lesson 6 showed another way to use re-inkers to watercolor. I liked this technique a lot! It’s fun to watch the colors spread out to wherever the water is on the paper. Although I only had 2 re-inkers, it worked just as well smooshing my ink pads onto a craft mat and picking up the ink. I added a lot of ‘raindrops’ — you regular readers know I love to take pictures of flowers that have raindrops on them. : )

Materials used:

  • Altenew Peony Bouquet & Beautiful Day (sentimen) stamp sets
  • Tsukineko Versamark Ink
  • Inkadinkado embossing powder: Linen White
  • Stampin’ Up! dye ink re-inkers: Bravo Burgundy & More Mustard
  • Altenew Crisp Dye Ink: Coral Berry
  • Tsukineko Memento  dye inks: Bamboo Leaves, Dandelion, Sweet Plum & Teal Zeal
  • Tonic Studios Nuvo Crystal Drops: Morning Dew
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor Cardstock
  • Simply Defined 5×7 Bright White card base 200#
  • Misc. teal cardstock
  • Tombow Xtreme adhesive

I am entering this in the following galleries and challenges:

Well, it was a fun and informative class. I’ve learned some useful tips and have a few techniques I think I will use again and again. As you’ve seen, the the class focuses on using dye inks (on pads, from re-inkers, or in shimmer sprays) to watercolor. Click on any of the highlighted links above for more info.

Edited to add: Thank you Altenew, for the honor!
