Hero Arts – We Gato Feel the Mewsic! Card

Hello and welcome to the party today! These two Latin cats (Gatos in Spanish) are ‘feline’ might fine as they play their MEWsic! I wonder if they’re playing the Mexican CAT Dance?!

Here’ a short video to show the wobble feature in action:

This is the first time I successfully got a ‘furry’ look by using Copic Various Ink and a dish towel. Seems my fuzzy rag was the wrong texture and was leaching ALL the color.

To give the flowers some depth, I pinched the side petals of the middle flowers upward.

I put YELLOW drops in the centers and was surprised the next day to see they had leeches some of the from the inks on the blanket pattern underneath (first pic).

Well, it looked kind of nifty, so I took some Copic markers and made them match the blanket colors.

Materials used:

  • Hero Arts My Monthly Hero April 2018 (MH0418C) stamps and dies

Muchas Gracias!

Hola! Today I’m going Latin with the latest My Monthly Hero stamps and dies by Hero Arts. Since there are three current challenges for flowers, I chose that lovely floral die cut and the dancing mouse with flowers in her hair.

When unpacking the stamps and dies I noticed the packaging cardstock was quite pretty and, since it measures 8.5″x 6.5″, cutting it in half gave me enough for a card

I’m going to take a moment to weigh in on the new Therm-o-Web/iCraft Purple tape. I’d heard so much positive buzz about it and I always have a tough time with everything else I’ve tried to hold my dies in place… I have to say: I HIGHLY recommend this tape! It’s the perfect weight and tack for this job!! No, I don’t get any commissions from anyone for saying that. I just thought you might like to know. : )

I wanted the flowers of the die cut frame to stand out against the pretty, but busy background, so I tried filling them in with Nuvo Crystal Drops. The first layer was too transparent. After the second layer, I colored them a little darker with Copic markers to make them pop.

Another one of the challenges called for sparkle and shine… I gave their outfits and the die cut flowers plenty of accents that sparkle and shine…and even their shoes shine! (I added them to the flamenco dancing mouse with Crystal drops and Stickles.)

These cute mice just make me smile!

Materials used:

  • Hero Arts My Monthly Hero April 2018 (MH0418C) stampsv dies, and packaging
  • Hero Arts My Monthly Hero ink cube: Fiesta Red, Fiesta Yellow
  • Tsukineko Memento dye ink: Tuxedo Black
  • Copic markers: C1,3; G02; R20; RV04Y08, 13, 15;YR02, 04

Fab You – The Ton Mixed Media Card with Tyvek

Hello and welcome craft loving peeps!

Today the whim has taken me to a mixed media experiment to share with you. For a long time I’ve wanted to experiment with Tyvek and a while back I finally took the time to play with it. Wanna know how it went? I started with a Tyvek envelope I’d saved from the mail.

I blended some of the new Color Burst Water Reactive inks on it in a pretty spring palette.

I placed the colored side down between two sheets of parchment paper and ironed on the reverse side (no steam). The magic of working with Tyvek is when you add heat — as it heats up, it shrinks and forms cool bubbles on the reverse side:

The white sheet is the original size. The other side has a concave pattern. Some people like using that side, but I prefer the pebbly look.

You do have to be careful not to get it too hot as the Tyvek will burn away…

… and so will the ink. It wasn’t hard to reapply color to those areas with the stencil brushes and what didn’t get covered later was covered with other media.

I cut around the bubbles to make two square-ish ‘boxes for the centerpiece of my cards and then started adding other forms of media. I took some plain art stones and rolled them around on the ink pads. You can do it with stencil brushes, but I found it easier to just use my finger…

I also took some Color Bursts in matching colors, plus some liquid metals and mixed them with some Moonstone Glimmer paste to make some customized glimmery colors:

For the edges I pressed some Angelina fibers in similar Spring colors and stuck them down with double sided tape. Wherever the fibers didn’t cover the tape, I added glimmer paste to cover the area. To finish off, I added a few bits of yarn

Now it was time to finish the card. I chose to add a classy lady and “fab you” inside the ‘box’. Doesn’t she look like she’s wandering through a spring art gallery gala?!

And for the inside: “You’re the cat’s meow”

Some day I’ll finish the card I made with the other half of the Tyvek sheet and show you the results.

MFT Creative Olympics Event 2 – Freestyle: Cool Friend Card

Welcome back for Event 2 of My Favorite Things Creative Olympics – Freestyle Card

This event is taking place at the Olympic Village (MFT Challenge and Inspiration Blog) and the only requirement is that the card be winter themed. I don’t have a lot of winter stamps because winter in Florida is everyone else’s spring. However, I DO have the gorgeous snowflakes from MFT, and Markerpop recently sent me the adorable Polar Pals, so I was able to put this card together:

Isn’t he just adorable?!! I want to show you a close-up so you can see that cool iridescent sparkle in the embossing powder:

You might also note that his pom-pom is flocked. To avoid cutting the whiskers, I used a Copic to match my blended background. We seem to be on a trend here… first lazy cats, now a sea lion lyin’ around…. can you tell I’ve been stuck in bed most of the past 3 months?! Not very Olympian. lol!

Materials used:

  • My Favorite Things stamp sets: Simply Snowflakes & Polar Pals
  • Tsukineko Versamark Ink
  • Judikins iridescent sparkle embossing powder
  • Tsukineko Memento dye ink – tuxedo black
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Inks: Tumbled Glass, Broken China & Stormy Sky
  • Copic markers: B02;R20,22; W1,3,5
  • Stampendous Fun Flock – Cantaloupe Orange
  • Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue
  • Core’dinations cardstock – white
  • American Crafts glitter card
  • Tombow Xtreme adhesive
  • Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L square foam adhesive

Papertrey Ink 11th Anniversary Floral Challenge – Hello Card

Hello my patient peeps! These constant headaches are still cramping my style, but at least I was able to make a card again. Yay!

It’s Papertrey Ink’s 11th Anniversary (congrats!!)  and their Day 1 Challenge was to use one of their designer’s sketches.

Edited to add… hahaha… the joke is on me… blame it on 10 weeks of daily migraines, but the 11th Anniversay Sketch challenge already closed. No matter, the Day 4 Floral Challenge is open and this fits. Hooray!

I chose Dawn McVey’s sketch and decided to use her take on it as inspiration, too.

This was my first time using stencil brushes and I really LOVE ’em! SO much easier than using a blending tool!! When my head gets better, I’ll tell you all about them.

After coloring and fussy cutting the flowers and leaves, I cut into them so I could curl up the edges more easily and then popped them up with Scotch adhesive dots. The only ‘extra pieces I cut out and added where the two center petals on each flower to bring them out further than the Flower Soft stamens.

I also used Nuvo Crystal Drops on top of my die cut ‘hello’ to give it a shiny, puffy-sticker look. Note to self: next tim,e do this on a craft sheet first so if your tremor takes it out of the lines, you can cut it off!

I also stamped a couple of the smaller flowers on the inside.

Materials used:

  • Papertrey Ink In Bloom Stamp set, Swoosh dies, Quatrefoil cover plate die cut (for stencil, with an Spellbinders Grand Oval die cut overlay)
  • Tsukineko Memento dye inks: Tuxedo Black, New Sprout, Rhubarb Stalk
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Ink – Spiced Marmalade
  • Copic Markers: G99; R22,24,29; Y 13,15; YG61;63
  • Nuvo Crystal Drops Gloss Ebony Black
  • Core’dinations cardstock: White & Black & Parisian Nights card
  • Scotch adhesive runner and adhesive dots (medium)
  • Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue

Sparkling Mixed Media Coffee/Tea Calendar

Hi, all!

It’s been a rough few weeks with a nasty relapse, but I’m back briefly to post this sparkling mixed media coffee/tea calendar that I made as a gift for a friend. (and for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge and the December Stamplorations Mixed Media Challenge)

As you probably know, it’s also time for the winter Coffee Lovers Hop. Winter in Florida doesn’t mean snow, it just means different flowers and perhaps a few more hot beverages, but there are enough warm days for a nice cold frap, too! There is the RARE frost this far south, so I really frosted everything up on this.

That frosting goes well with MarkerPoP’s day 10 theme: Sparkle. I love the various sparkling products used, like the Stickles on the cups and feathers, the Extreme Peacock embossing powder on the feathers and the copper glitter paste on the stenciled background. The flowers have Flower Soft centers

That fab musicalbutterfly just sparkles and shines! You can’t hardly tell in the pics, but a layer of Glossy Accents over the fraps looks just like the plastic cups they come in.

Even the whipped topping on the fraps have some frosty sparkle in them!

Materials used:

  • Stamplorations stamps: Coffee & Dog Roses, Trendy Feathers, Trendy Feathes 2, Trendy Butterflies, Tea Cup Row, Always Time for Tea
  • Stamplorations ARTplorations stencil: Swirly Blooms
  • DoCrafts 2018 calendar tabs
  • KaiserCraft Bracket Album (just one ‘page’)
  • Plaid Apple Barrel Jet Black acrylic paint
  • Tsukineko Memento dye inks: Bamboo Leaves, Tuxedo Black
  • Core’dinations paper: white, lilac, gray
  • Tsukineko Versamark ink
  • Recollections gold detail embossing powder
  • Judikins Extreme Peacock Embossing Powder
  • Copic Markers:B24; G24, 99; R20; V04, 09, 15, 17; Y15, 17, 35; YG61, 63, 67
  • Sakura Gelly Roll pen – white 08
  • BoBunny glitter paste: Copper
  • Ranger Inkssentials Glossy Accents
  • Ranger Stickles: Lavender, Rose Gold, Seafoam, Star Dust, Turquoise
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Stickles: Dusty Concord
  • Ranger Ice Stickles: Silver Ice

Stay Pawsitive Catastrophe Card

I’m back with another Art impressions card for the Cat Lovers Hop and for the Art Impressions Challenge 219: Stamp a Scene.

CH

Since this is a get well card, I just HAD to put Nermal in there… he was given to me when I was in the hospital with a note: ‘Hope you get back to Nermal again real soon!’ How cute was that?!!

Now you can better see this cute little scene of kitty hobbling off carrying his catnip tea the handiest way possible. It cracks me up! Since dad broke his foot the cast is now off, but he is frustrated that the boot didn’t come off this last visit, so this card should cheer him up. I fussy cut the cat and the cup and added a little bit of shadow to the scene.

Then there’s this little cutie-pie on the inside:

Since I didn’t want this to bleed through to the back, I used colored pencils instead of Copics. Glossy accents help the eyes and balloon to look more realistic.

I also like how that Coredinations Black Magic paper sands down to show the inner color! The Paw Print embossing folder goes great with that sentiment!

Materials used:

  • Art Impressions Catastrophy stamp set
  • Spellbinders Butterfly Circles and Heart Circles dies
  • Darice Paws embossing folder
  • Core’dinations Black Magic cardstock (and Sand-It tool)
  • Core’dinations cardstock: orange & white
  • Tsukineko Memento dye ink: Tuxedo Black
  • Copic markers: B5; BG13,15; C1,3,5; E23,25; RV02; YG61
  • Marvy LePlume II – black
  • Spectrum Noir Aqua Blend pencils: Bright Green, Carrot, Fossil Grey, Parakeet, Persimmon, Petunia, Red Barn & Strawberry
  • Sakura Gelly Roll pen – white
  • Ranger Inkssentials Glossy Accents
  • Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue
  • Scotch tape runner
