MEWsager Gift Tag

Finally! After many technical difficulties and a few lost posts, I got my blog back to working!

Welcome to the 2020 Cat Lovers Hop, (our 6th year!) hosted by HerPeacefulGarden.

As you know, I look forward to this hop each year. Unfortunately, those of you who follow my blog know that I haven’t been able to craft as much this year, as what little energy I have has been used up caring for my folks. In trying to get ready for this hop, I find out I’ve been away so long that WordPress has completely changed up the format and it’s like learning how to make a post all over again. Argh! (I think there’s something to that saying about not being able to teach an old cat new tricks!) Ok, enough caterwauling!

I found this adorable little hand held massager at the Dollar Tree. Not only is it cute, but it’s perfect for my mom whose psoriatic arthritis makes it too painful for her to give my dad a back massage that distracts him from his pancreatic cancer pain. This allows her to knead his muscles without hurting her hands.

I was hunting for a cat stamp to shadow my printed punny sentiment, but couldn’t find what I was looking for. They say necessity is the mother of invention… So I drew and drew a likeness of the cat until I was satisfied with it — which reminded my why I really prefer buying stamps!! After printing the message on cardstock, I cut out the tag (Spellbinders Exquisite Labels 11)and then traced my cat image and colored it in. On the back side I used the cutout of the cat image and then wrote a personal note around it.

I copied my drawing and made this .jpg file (aka “digi”) in case you happen to find a similar massager at your local dollar store and want to use my kitty drawing for a card. You should be able to right click and save it. If not, you’ll have to take a screen shot or draw you own. I rarely use digis, so I don’t know anything about re-sizing, etc., sorry, but I’m sure you can figure it out! Tag me or come back and comment when you post your project so I can cheer your efforts!

This will be my only entry in this year’s Cat Lovers Hop. I hope you have a FURbulous day and enjoy the rest of the hop!

2019 – The Year In Review

Phew! Another year and another decade have slipped by! Here’s hoping the upcoming year and beyond are WAY better!

Despite only being able to do 20 posts last year, I was tickled pink to have 3766 visitors and 82 followers from 78 countries visit and leave scores of comments. Thank you all!!!

Despite my limited activity, I did have a couple of special honors last year:

  • On September 12, 2019, I was pleased to be featured in the ‘Caught by Altenew‘ Instagram post for this project (Blog post HERE; Instagram post HERE):

20190106_190730_wm

20180811_231447_wm1

Here are the top nine from the 1150+ likes on my 34 posts on Instagram:

Looks like cards with beaches, cats and mice rule!

For the year ahead, I have some posts in draft that I wasn’t able to finish and I HOPE to get to do more crafting and posting this year. My health problems continue, plus now I’m battling the insurance company to reinstate my disability.  Dad is still doing chemo and his pancreatic cancer markers have fallen considerably, so that is good! My 5 year blogiversary is coming up this year, too. Thank you all for sticking with me and giving me so much encouragement as I continue to craft wherever the whim takes me!

Hugs,

~D.Ann

Wishing You Oceans of Joy

Hello, sweet peeps! I know this has been a nearly unprecedented streak of posting, but I’m almost caught up with the backlog, and then we’ll get back to my ‘whenever the whim hits’ pattern. : )

Today I have a fun card — it’d be great for a BFF’s engagement party, don’t you think?!

All the stamps and dies I used to make this were new to me and I love how they go together! Remember back when I played with Pebeo Fantasy paints for the first time back in THIS post? (good grief, it’s been almost a year! I told you I was backlogged!! At that time I also tried some on paper thinking they’d be cool for a mermaid’s tail. I was right! This was the result:

I outlined it first with Pebeo Vitrail Glitter Medium and let it dry, then filled it with the Pebeo Prisme paints which hold their own and don’t mix into brown as green and purple normally would. As they dry, they for these fabulous cell ‘scales’!

Embossing the lines of the clam shell and puffing up the pillow with a stylus, like the Heartfelt Creations Flower Shaping Essentials tool, helps give it dimension!:

Here’s a close-up of that cute little seahorse:

Now that I know the Pebeo Prisme paints work so well, I need to make a whole set of mermaid cards!

Materials used:

  • Make it Crafty: Cordelia the Mermaid and Clam Shell
  • Create a Smile: Under the Sea
  • Hero Arts Color Layering Seahorse stamp set

Morel Mushrooms and Power Poppy Thanks So Mush Card

Hello and welcome back!

I have been anxious to share this fun card and story with you and am happy I finally have the chance. One evening near the end of April, while in Indiana, we left my cousin’s home after supper and suddenly mom hollered, “stop the car!” Her eagle eyes had spotted some morel mushrooms alongside the road. These delectable delicacies are a favorite of ours, but have a short season and usually require hours tromping through the woods to find, so we rarely get to enjoy them anymore. We counted about 16 right there near the road.

We called my cousin to let her know where they were so she could get them, as they were on her property. Fortunately, her husband (who, I hear, doesn’t particularly care for mushrooms) answered the phone and said, ‘you guys go ahead and take them!’ (Actually, my cousin is such a sweetheart, I know she’d’ve said the same thing.)

As we got out of the car and started hunting, we kept finding more and more and, in a span of just a few short minutes, ended up with a mess of about 46! Best mushrooming EVER!! Thanks, cuz!!

The largest was over 4″! They fried up nicely and were absolutely DELICIOUS!!

Oh, I’m also going to show you a picture of some wild violets up there… in a minute you’ll see why…

Now, how do you thank such a generous sacrifice? Well, Power Poppy has a fabulous morel mushroom stamp that was just perfect:

They look so REAL!! And Becca Feeken’s fabulous Annabelle’s Trousseau die makes a lovely open lacework base for it! I may have to make a whole set of these in the near future!!

Materials used:

  • Power Poppy Wild Mushrooms stamp set
  • Spellbinders Annabelle’s Trousseau die from the Chantilly Paper Lace collection
  • Spellbinders Fancy Tags 3 (with ends snipped off)
  • Core’dinations cardstock: white, purple, kraft
  • Tsukineko Memento dye ink: Rich Cocoa

Sparkling Mixed Media Coffee/Tea Calendar

Hi, all!

It’s been a rough few weeks with a nasty relapse, but I’m back briefly to post this sparkling mixed media coffee/tea calendar that I made as a gift for a friend. (and for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge and the December Stamplorations Mixed Media Challenge)

As you probably know, it’s also time for the winter Coffee Lovers Hop. Winter in Florida doesn’t mean snow, it just means different flowers and perhaps a few more hot beverages, but there are enough warm days for a nice cold frap, too! There is the RARE frost this far south, so I really frosted everything up on this.

That frosting goes well with MarkerPoP’s day 10 theme: Sparkle. I love the various sparkling products used, like the Stickles on the cups and feathers, the Extreme Peacock embossing powder on the feathers and the copper glitter paste on the stenciled background. The flowers have Flower Soft centers

That fab musicalbutterfly just sparkles and shines! You can’t hardly tell in the pics, but a layer of Glossy Accents over the fraps looks just like the plastic cups they come in.

Even the whipped topping on the fraps have some frosty sparkle in them!

Materials used:

  • Stamplorations stamps: Coffee & Dog Roses, Trendy Feathers, Trendy Feathes 2, Trendy Butterflies, Tea Cup Row, Always Time for Tea
  • Stamplorations ARTplorations stencil: Swirly Blooms
  • DoCrafts 2018 calendar tabs
  • KaiserCraft Bracket Album (just one ‘page’)
  • Plaid Apple Barrel Jet Black acrylic paint
  • Tsukineko Memento dye inks: Bamboo Leaves, Tuxedo Black
  • Core’dinations paper: white, lilac, gray
  • Tsukineko Versamark ink
  • Recollections gold detail embossing powder
  • Judikins Extreme Peacock Embossing Powder
  • Copic Markers:B24; G24, 99; R20; V04, 09, 15, 17; Y15, 17, 35; YG61, 63, 67
  • Sakura Gelly Roll pen – white 08
  • BoBunny glitter paste: Copper
  • Ranger Inkssentials Glossy Accents
  • Ranger Stickles: Lavender, Rose Gold, Seafoam, Star Dust, Turquoise
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Stickles: Dusty Concord
  • Ranger Ice Stickles: Silver Ice
  • Nuvo Crystal Drops: Copper Penny, Gloss Dandelion Yellow, Gloss White
  • Flower Soft: Daffodil (the flower centers)
  • Misc. Vellum
  • Recollections Floral Embellishments
  • Simply Defined ‘Stay Put’ liquid adhesive
  • Scotch adhesive dots – medium

I’m playing along with the following challenges and hops. Click on any of them for more information on how you can join the fun:

I have a couple of additional projects that I already made for the Coffee Lovers Hop… If I can manage to get them posted, you’ll be hearing from me again real soon, so stay tuned!

I’m glad you stopped by today and, as always, I appreciate your comments!

Geometrics Fancy Cats Cards

The time has come for my final post of the Cat Lovers Hop. Wahhh! But, Wahoo-kachoo! We just passed our peak number of 149 entries from last year!!

It has been a week of the highest quality with the 4c’s … Cats, Coffee, Crafting & Chocolate. We make clarity, cut, color and carat jealous! Lol! (BTW: If you want some better chuckles, be sure to read to the very end!)

I’m closing with this pair of elegant and fun cards:

(Special thanks to my aunt for making that gorgeous cross-stitched kitty and orchid!)

I love how well that embossing folder goes with the geometric ‘ball’, don’t you?!

And on the inside are these cute bookmarks:

Since I cut the cats as a pair, it was easy to mix & match the pieces for a second card:

For the bookmark on this one, I cut a second one out of the god cardstock, but put the paper in reverse and glued them together so both the front and back are gold.

Which do YOU prefer? I kind of lean toward the black background.

Materials used:

  • Penny Black dies: Fancy Cat, Geometrics & Bookmark Tab
  • Penny Black Nine Lives Stamp set (sentiment)
  • We R Memory Keepers Sequence embossing folder
  • Core’dinations cardstock: black, white & green
  • Colorbok Shiny Gold Metallc Paper
  • The Paper Company Black Glimmer paper
  • Recollections Glitter Paper: Snow
  • Tsukineko Versamark ink
  • Inkadinkado embossing powders: black & linen white
  • Copic marker: RV02
  • Sakura Pigma Micron archival ink black 005
  • Tonic Studios Nuvo Crystal Drops – Bubble Gum Blush
  • Sookwang Scor-tape double-sided adhesive

I am entering these cards in the following hops and challenges – click on any one of them for more information on how you can join in on the fun!

Okay, it’s time for the final hint for my Blog Candy Giveaway games from THIS post.  Although you can only count it once, this archaic four-letter-word, meaning ‘a dainty or choice food, a delicacy’ can be found 6 times in the puzzle. Still having trouble? No worries, you will still get entries for the Bonus questions, whether or not you get the answers to #1 and #2 correct. Have fun!

Also: if any of you early birds have found some words you missed with the clues the past few posts and want to change your answer to #1, for the early bird may get the worm, but the late cat gets both. Lol! This morning I received the first correct answer to #1 and #3. Many of you mamaged to get #2 already. If anyone wants to change their answers, you still have time to resubmit a revised answer. : ) You have until 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time, Sunday, October 29, 2017 to finish up and submit your final answers via e-mail. Don’t forget to check back on Monday, October 30, 2017 – hopefully, before noon PACIFIC time for my winners and answers post.

Note: If Potential Tropical Cyclone 18 (likely to be named Tropical Storm Philippe) continues as predicted, we will have winds and up to 8″ of rain tonight and tomorrow. This usually wouldn’t be a problem, but coming on the heels of Irma, who knows what the power lines here will do. (friends just a couple of miles from me were out of electric a whole week (which sounds like nothing compared to the Keys and Caribbean).) Anyway, if my post happens to be late, you’ll know why. Best way not to miss it: subscribe to follow my blog!

It’s been a wonderful hop and my mind is already spinning with ideas for next year’s hop. (No hard puzzles, I promise!) Hopefully I’ll see you all back here way before then. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the funnies below!

Warm, furry hugs,

~D.Ann

Well, you saw that I started out as a crazy cat kid and then went on to be a wild cat teen… here I am today:

Actually – that’s our hop host Janis with her clowder of 18… I just Photoshopped my Bitmoji avatar in the picture. Lol!

I thought I’d close with a few fun things I recently found while surfing the net:

How do we know the earth is round?
If you haven’t been following Elaine Chong’s imaginary pet Black Coffe (Interviewed HERE) and his friend Sugar (the mouse) Here’s a recent post I found entertaining: fishing with bookworms:  (click the link to see it:)

Graphic 45 Raining Cats & Dogs Calendar

Welcome back for the final day of the Cat Lovers Hop! I can’t believe it’s almost over!

I have another 2018 calendar for you. (I can’t believe 2017 is almost over, either!) This one features Graphic 45’s fabulous Raining Cats and Dogs collection

I know I said pigment inks are the best for these ‘boards’ however, I will say I had an extra tough time getting this shiny gold ink to dry (Teresa Collins Glitz Gold by Color Box). I also realize I didn’t get a picture of the shine, and now it’s gone on to its new home. I let it sit overnight, and thought it was dry, but I was still getting smudge marks when I touched it and had to use a heat setting tool on it. Just FYI.

I took my flower shaping tools and, after fussy cutting the flowers, umbrella cat head, and arm with the puppy (a LOT of fussy cutting, but worth it!), I put them all on some soft foam and gave them some dimension by rolling the tools across the back side of the images. Then I adhered them to the page – sometimes with foam backing to keep them popped up – for some added dimension.

I prefer mixing the colors of the microbeads for a more natural look, don’t you?

Materials used:

  • Graphic 45 Raining Cats & Dogs paper collection: Precious Pets and Tags & Pockets (Enabler alert: G45 has just released the Deluxe Collectors Edition!)
  • Spellbinders Grand Labels One
  • Heartfelt Creations Flower Shaping Essentials tools
  • Kaiser Craft Bracket Album
  • Docrafts 2018 calendar tabs
  • Color Box Teresa Collins Glitz Gold pigment ink
  • Pebbles,  Inc. Pearlescent Chalks: Jewel Tones
  • Martha Stewart Crafts Metallic Glass Microbeads: Fire Opal, Florentine Gold, Garnet & Yellow Barite
  • Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue & Clear Gel Tacky Glue
  • Tombow Xtreme adhesive
  • Misc. ribbon

I’m entering this in the Cat Lovers Hop… click HERE for more information as to how you can join the fun.

Don’t forget that the special discount bundle at Frantic Stamper from THIS post is only good through November 1st, so, if you wanted to snag that fab deal, don’t delay!

Time is running out (that seems to be a theme in this post!) for my Blog Candy Giveaway games from THIS post, too. Another hint: There are 7 words that run through the T in the exact middle of the word search grid. Still having trouble? You’ll get one final clue later today. No worries, you will still get entries for the Bonus questions, whether or not you get the answers to #1 and #2 correct. Have fun!

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and leave your kind comments!!

Double Sided, Multi-Colored, Multi-Window Uchi’s Design Animated Cat Card

Hello, hello! Here we are on the penultimate day of the Cat Lovers Hop.

As the saying goes: ‘Time sky raisins when you’re having fun!’ What?! Since there are so many new hoppers, I HAVE to re-share with you my favorite cat meme and you’ll understand:

Three years in a row and it still makes me laugh!

I have my last interactive card to show you today and it’s a doozy… In fact, it can only REALLY be appreciated in a video. so here’s one from Instagram. (Roll your mouse over the picture and click the white arrow to play it):

It’s so mesmerizing, I could play with it for hours!

I just LOVE animated cards and am tickled that my first attempt turned out as well as it did! I have a bonus tutorial for you. I used Uchi’s Animation Die Cut to make that flower! So another way to stretch your dies, should you have it (or be able to talk some sweet friend or relative into getting it for you!). So you’re going to turn this grid into that flower:

First you have to trim down the grid leaving the same width at the top and bottom. You don’t want this too thick because that’s how much your flower will stick up off your card.

Next you gently fold the grid around a pen and glue the ends together. Use the barrel of the pen to smooth out the curves of the ‘petals.’

Then you run a bead of glue along the bottom seam and start rolling it over on itself, molding it into a circle.

Here’s what it looks like all rolled up. (Hmph… I see I didn’t worry too much about curving the petals since I was just demo-ing for you… they are rather pointy. Oh well…)

Then you gently separate the petals and pull them out to the sides and put a brad in the center and tah-dah… a cute little flower!

You can also see from these close-ups, the advantage of using the Animation Die versus just buying the sheets… You can color it to match your stamp… even using multiple colors!

I waited to color the grids to match until AFTER I could set the stamped pull tab in the middle of the card and see where the colors needed to be on the grids, but BEFORE I closed it up… that way I could do it over scratch paper and not worry about getting any ink on my stamped slider.

Note: I tried putting just a solid color (black or other) as a grid over the colored stamped images and they also worked as animated images. It’s just cooler when the colors match!

Did you notice that the same pull tab animates both sides (simultaneously)! That was not without some engineering obstacles… for example the first time I stamped my images – after I had already figured out and made the front and back — oops! I did them in reverse and had to re-stamp them (which was much easier than lining up my grids again!).

By the way – don’t let this semi-complicated card intimidate you. You can make these very simple with just one animated image and they’re just as entertaining!

Her are the still pictures of the card. Here’s the front. ( I added that cute kitty sticker going for the dragonfly – doesn’t it look like he’s just about to pounce!):

And here’s the back. I like the optical illusion of the background paper mixed with these animations! Wish I knew the manufacturer, I’d get more!

Materials used:

  • Uchi’s Design Animation Stamp sets: Loving Cat; Growing Garden; Butterflies
  • Uchi’s Design Animation Grid Die (Thank you , Uchi’s for this prize when you released it on Instagram!!)
  • Spellbinders dies: Classic Circles, Gold Circles One and Exquisite Circles

  • Aleene’s Original Tacky glue

  • Misc. Brad

I am playing along in the following hops and challenges – click on any one of them for more information on how you can join in on the fun!

How about another delicate hint for my Blog Candy Giveaway games from THIS post. Don’t forget: some words may be in there backwards! Although I can’t cater to your every whim, have no fear, you will still get entries for the Bonus questions whether or not you get the answers to #1 and #2 correct. At least you’re now two words closer! Have fun!

I’m so glad to have had all of you visit and have thoroughly enjoyed reading your delightful comments! Thank you for taking the time!!

A Furry Little Heartfelt Floral Calendar & Card

Hello again my furry little friends and their two legged subjects! The Cat Lovers Hop continues!

This time I have a sweet gift set of a hanging 2018 calendar and a matching card:

Here’s a close-up of the calendar… I cut up a Heartfelt Creations Raindrops on Roses die cut and used the pieces to frame the pretty Furry Little Story Paper. The roses are made of vellum embossed in blue and then colored ON THE BACK with a Copic marker.

Note: when using ink to cover the bracket album, it is best to use pigment ink!  (Instead of an album, I used each ‘page’ as a sturdy calendar backing.)

Materials used – calendar:

  • Heartfelt Creations Botanical Rose stamps and Botanical Wings dies
  • Heartfelt Creations Raindrops on Roses dies
  • Spellbinders Grand Labels One
  • Kaiser Craft Bracket Album
  • Scrapberry’s A Furry Little Story paper pack
  • Foray Transluscent Inkjet Vellum 30#
  • Docrafts 2018 calendar tabs

For those of you playing along Blog Candy Giveaway games from THIS post, I’m sure you’re right smack in the middle of the puzzle. It’s time for another hint: Do you know what a bunch of cows and a type of orchid have in common?! Don’t fret… You will still get entries for the Bonus questions whether or not you get the answers to #1 and #2 correct. Have fun! Oh, and it may hearten you to know that even the puzzle creator had to wrestle with this… I was just making up my ‘solutions’ post and found I lost a word in my answer key somewhere along the way in the many revisions. So, when tallying the answers to #1, I will give credit to both the answer I hinted at in the last two posts and the correct answer. A toast to imperfection! Our kitties understand – as long as we feed them on time!!
