2019 Cat Lovers Hop Crafty Cat Card and The Gray Muse Enamel Pin Giveaway

**** edited to note: giveaway now closed****

Hello and welcome to the 2019 Cat Lovers Hop celebrating our 5th year – MEOWZA!! Paws up to Janis, who puts loads of hard work into putting this hop together for us each year!!!

Unfortunately I won’t have as many posts as I’d planned for you this year (see previous post for deets), but I do have at least one card and a fabulous giveaway sponsored by Rubeena at The Gray Muse for you at the end of this post. In fact, I used her fun new Cats in the Craft Room stamp set to create a card for my dad who just got home from the hospital:

I wanted the front to rouse curiosity, so I cut out the cat that’s coloring and had him peeking into the ‘window’ with no sentiment

On the reverse side I found kitty on the craft mat in the same set that pretty nearly fits the head size and stamped it on the back for the face. The kitty in the CRAFTS box (that’s FTs, not Ps) in the set provided the paws… I just cut them out and folded them over the edge before gluing down the cat.

To give depth to the inside, I stamped the cat drawing 4 times and cut out each ‘page’, distressed the edges and then layered them exactly as the stamp, with the kitty on top. Then I drew thought bubbles to the stamped sentiments and wrote in my explanation of the scene below (now you know why I prefer using stamps!! lol!).

This card says everything I wanted to say! I’m SO happy that Rubeena has branched out into stamps! The Gray Muse is most famous for her fun enamel pins. Some are true-isms like this one: We rise by lifting others!

Supplies:

  • The Gray Muse Cats In the Craft Room stamp set

CATchy MEWsic Card

Hello and thanks for your patience! I’ve been out sick again, but finally got back in the saddle with a really fun card I needed to make up for a friend. I used the current challenge prompts from A Blog Named Hero: Love is in the Air with a color palette:

Now that I’m on my computer, I see that third color is fuchsia… on my phone it looks red. I figured out it’s the phone… I took a screen shot from the pone and put it on my computer and it looks just like the one above. Crazy! Oh well, it’s close enough and still perfect for the theme. Next time I know to check the computer for truer colors!

From the minute I saw this Dancing Music Notes die, it was almost exactly what I’ve long had in mind for my Taking Note poem about the people in the symphony of our lives. I wanted the poem written across a flowing staff with pictures of people’s faces in the notes. I have tried and tried to fit it in, but it just looks too crowded…

I guess I’ll have to just print it out in a pretty font on the inside of the card… unless I can talk Hero Arts into making this into an 8×10 die and printing my poem on a stamp, too! lol! For this card I specifically wanted this lovely sentiment on the inside:

At least my other idea for this die worked… having cats playing across the music staff… so fun! My favorite is the white kitty in the lower right who’s resting with her paw linked through a musical rest symbol! To get the reverse image of the dangling kitty I stamped him off on a flat rubber stamp and stamped that onto paper. Since the impression was light, I traced over it with an ultra fine pen. I didn’t worry about the umbrella piece showing… It just looks like part of his paw. I may have gone a little overboard with the hearts, but to me they represent their fabulous musical purrs. The sentiments seemed a little lost after I added the hearts, so I outlined them with the black ultrafine marker. If I could have put my hands on a paw-print stamp, I’d’ve probably put one in each note, and then it would’ve been WAY too busy, so it’s a good thing I couldn’t find one handy.

Supplies used:

  • Hero Arts Dancing Music Notes Confetti Die
  • Hero Arts Raining Cats and Dogs stamps and dies
  • Hero Arts MMH04-18 & Cinco de Meow stamp sets (feel the MEWsic)
  • Die-Versions My Micro Font 1/4″ die (CAT-chy!)
  • CAS-ual Fridays Big Treble stamp set(inside)
  • Tsukineko Memento dye ink: Tuxedo Black
  • Faber-Castell Polychromos colored pencils (cats):  Cadmium Orange, Dark Cadmium Yellow, Warm Gray 1 & 3, Ivory, Pink Carmine, Rose Carmine, Light Red Violet
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Inks (blended background): Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick, Barn Door
  • Hero Arts inks: MMH 01-18 Passion Flower (sentiments) & MMH04-18 Fiesta Red (hearts)
  • Sakura Microperm 01 ultrafine pen
  • Core’dinations cardstock: white & purple; card base: Parisian Nights
  • Simply Defined permanent adhesive runner and ‘Stay-Put’ glue

Thanks for stopping by to CATch this MEWsical little number! I hope it made you smile!!

Art Impressions Cat Twist Ties Cuddle Cats Group Hug Gate Fold Card and Construction Tips

Yes, another cat card! This one was supposed to have made the Cat Lovers Hop, but the company I’d ordered the stamp set from goofed and sent me the wrong set and the correct one didn’t arrive until after the hop was done. (FYI, it wasn’t Art Impressions, this was before they had this set up on their site) I still needed to make up the card I had planned, so here we are. : )

This stamp set is SO us, I just HAD to get it to make first and foremost for the other special folks in my favorite group hug pack! And, you know me… I’m a sucker for interactive cards…. This one is a doozy!!

This is a gate-fold card, where the two sides fold together and meet or overlap slightly in the middle. Only on this one, they’re tied together by the interlocking cats. If you push in slightly on the edges, you can slide them apart…

See… the orange tiger kitty is sliding away from the group.

Since the current Art Impressions challenge #245 is Washi Tape, I framed the outside with washi tape and lined the inside with a couple of layers of it, too. For those of you who don’t know what washi tape is a thin decorative adhesive tape; much thinner than masking tape… You can see the underlying patterned paper on the front of the card under the orange, and the row of hearts from the washi tape under the pink washi tape on the inside:

For the inside, I fussy cut the cuddly group and put them together exactly behind the ones in the opening so they’re still hugging on the inside when it’s opened and it says: “Does somebody need a cuddle?” Awww!

There was one part of the directions for this set that wasn’t quite clear. I’m going to jot down some tips and pointers both for my pea-sized brain to refer back to as I’m likely to forget next time I put one of these together, and FYI, too.

Tip #1 You want the stamp to hit the edges of the paper. I used a MISTI and put the paper in the corner to stamp it, which means there was a tiny space between the edge of the stamp and the edge of the paper, so it didn’t cut out completely. (also: Don’t ink up the corners in the stamps below the cats… they’re just there to help you place the cats properly… place the corner of the stamp on the corresponding corner of your card.

No big deal… it’s just 4 tiny snips with a scissors, but you COULD avoid it. Just sayin’.

The instructions say to ‘score a 9 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ panel of cardstock at 2 3/4″ and 7:”. Fold like a gatefold card with the left panel on top.’ Well, perhaps you’re smarter than I am, but I wasn’t sure which is the left panel or if it made a difference, so I did it both ways:

As you can see, the longer panel (2 3/4″) puts the finished product in the center of the card. (not to say that an off-center card isn’t cool, too):

Tip #2:  I clearly marked on my package that the wider 2 3/4″ panel is the left panel to TRY to help me remember next time. (We’ll see if it works! lol!)

Tip #3: don’t crease your scoring until you have the cats stamped and cut out… that gives you a little wiggle room to adjust the folds, if needed.

Tip #4: you can cut off a bit more of the bottom edge if you want some of the foot from the cat in the back showing:

Since the cute stitched edging didn’t show up on my patterned paper, I decided to outline it with a lace heart. None of the heart dies I had on hand were the exact shape of this heart opening, but the Spellbinders Lace Hearts can be cut down and made to fit with a little finagling.

Supplies used:

  • Art Impressions Cat Twist Ties stamps and dies
  • Spellbinders Lace Hearts dies
  • Altenew Halftone Hearts stamps
  • Tsukineko Memento dye inks: Tuxedo Black, Rich Cocoa, Angel Pink, Rose Bud
  • Core’dinations white cardstock
  • Authentique Devoted pad: “Frisky” & “Affection” papers & Devoted Details stickers
  • Copic Markers: C1,3,5,7; E71; YR02, 24
  • Recollections Washi Tapes… various
  • Scotch tape runner
  • Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue

I am playing along with the following challenges, click on any one of them for more information on how you can join the fun:

Next, I hope to finally finish a post I’m working on with some jewelry inspiration for you. You know me… no promises on when I’ll actually finish it, so just stay tuned! : )

T-I-double g-Rrr… Wobble Tigger Easel Card! Hoo-hoo!

Welcome to my final post for the 2018 Cat Lovers Hop! Yes, your inboxes will finally get a break from this cat card blitz. >^.^< Wohoo! We’ve surpassed our previous record and have over 200 entries in the hop already this year and there’s still half a day to go!!

This card sums up my feelings about the Cat Lovers Hop pretty well!

For a change, I’m going to start with the back of the card:

Knowing me, I’ll probably write a few funny lines back here like, “I wonder where I put the car keys?” or “I wonder where I left my glasses?” : )

When you open it up, it becomes a stand-up card easel-y (I just HAD to put the pun in!) using that pretty easel base by Anna Griffin, :

To get the leaves filled out with some depth and texture, I die cut the ornate frame and then embossed it into some green cardstock, too. I fussy cut along the outside, cutting straight across the top where the easel die would be attached. Then I affixed the die-cut piece over it and colored it up with chalks.

To hold the card in place, I put some felt cobblestones on the path. Tah-dah!

I was going to color Tigger, but thought it might be easier to just cut out the parts I would need in the corresponding colors and emboss the background for his stripes. It involved a little bit of fussy cutting but looks grrreat (oops! wrong tiger!).

Here he is bobbing around in all his glory on that tail that’s made out of springs… Bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy, fun, fun, fun, fun, fun!:

Supplies:

  • Character World: Disney, Winnie the Pooh: Tigger die
  • Anna Griffin Ornate Frames & Easy Easel dies
  • Mama Elephant Hooray die
  • Technique Tuesday DIY Say It Hugs

Well, that brings the 2018 Cat Lovers Hop to a close – for me, anyway…. this cat’s tuckered out! Don’t forget to get your comments in for all of the giveaways before 11:59pm Sunday, October 27, 2018. For those of you counting the Spellbinders dies used, this completes my projects (Hint: there were non used on this card. lol!) I had someone ask if it was dies or sets, so I’ll clarify: It’s the number of different SETS. You can tell them apart by their names! Please be sure to look at my actual blog posts and not your email versions as I had to update a couple. Sorry.

Floral Cat Spinner Card

Good morning and welcome to the final day of the 2018 Cat Lovers Hop! With over 175 entries already, there has been loads of amazing crafty inspiration and feline fun!

I have a fun spinner card to show you:

I love how that die looks like a ball of yarn! The little hearts at the bottom almost look like cat heads, too. It was a little daunting figuring out how to put this together as I needed to hide the spinning mechanism beneath the kitty, but I used some circle dies and foam (and baby powder to help it spin a little more freely), and got it to work. There is a small solid circle of foam underneath the white circle on the back side of kitty, glued to kitty. The pink circle on kitty is a donut, with the hole smaller than the white circle, but larger than the foam circle, allowing free movement. The pink circle was glued to the foam ring on the card, the inside of which is larger than the white circle on the kitty, allowing free movement. Totally confused? Me, too, but it works. : )

After stamping this sweet decorative cat, I colored her up using gel pens and added some glossy accents on her eyes and paws.

The inside die cut says You Make Every Day Perfect… I just cut the first e off of Perfect and cut and extra u from You and made it Purfect. I used some chalks and a sparkle pen to make the sentiment stand out a little more. (Those really are two different shades of pink cardstock, the camera doesn’t show it very well.)

I love the sweet sentiment stamped on the back!! I’m going to be using it a lot to thank the many good friends that I have!

Here is a video of the card in action (You may need to click on the email to go to the actual blog post, then click in the middle of the picture on the white arrow):

Nosy Kitty Goes Nuts Over Secret Acorn! Fun Gift Card Holder

I had so much fun with this next card!!! It’d fit the Coffee Lovers Hop, but right now we’re doing the CAT Lovers Hop!

I just adore the look on the face of this Nosy Kitty stamp by Stampendous! What is he staring so intently at inside that acorn? See how his eyes glisten?!! He’s going nuts waiting  to tear into it, for sure! I love that fab Small Die of the Month Acorn by Spellbinders! It was serendipitous to find the acorn shaped gift cards at Starbucks… the perfect match! I had already snipped off the word Fall even though I ended up putting fall leaves around it. I had done a different background, but didn’t like it, so wanted to cover it up. lol!.

So, I set about making an acorn window/pocket to hold the gift card. My original thought was to make it see-through to the cute pair inside, but I have to admit, by this point I was like a kitten after gorging on milk… barely holding my eyes open. (insert cute viral video of kitten falling asleep here. Lol! >^.^<) I thought the better of chasing my tail all night and kept it fairly simple. Maybe some other time!

On the inside I stamped this cute couple of chipmunks inside the acorn (it must be HUGE). I didn’t want to color them with Copics as they’d bleed through to the back, and they looked too plain uncolored, so I got out my Polychromos and colored them up. This will make a great Thank You card for a couple of coffee loving friends!

To finish off the project, I stamped the cat and a chipmunk with an acorn on the envelope:

Supplies:

  • Spellbinders Small Die of the Month – October 2018
  • Stampendous Nosy Cat stamp
  • Neat & Tangled My Favorite Nut and Purrrfect stamp sets (inside & envelope)
  • Core’dinations white and kraft cardstock

Take Life One Cup At a Time -The Cat’s Pajamas Get Well Card

I’m closing out today with a sweet kitty get-well card for the Cat Lovers Hop.

This month’s TCP Tuesday Challenge (#351) theme is holiday. This is a stretch, but in Europe saying you’re on holiday means you’re on vacation. Well, where I worked, vacation days and sick days were all lumped together, solving the problem of people calling in sick when they just wanted a day off. Since taking a day off in bed IS a kind of forced holiday, I’m entering this in the challenge…. let’s celebrate getting better!  : )

Ah, yes, sit back and milk it, taking life one cup at a time!

Tip: Take a little Brutus Monroe Alabaster pigment ink on your finger and run it over embossed details to highlight them.

Good ol’ Glossy Accents and a Sparkle Pen jazz things up a little.

And, if you don’t have the right color of faux pearls, take a Copic marker to white ones!

Supplies:

  • The Cats Pajamas Big Cups & You Sick Thing stamp sets
  • Spellbinders Isabella Frame dies
  • Recollections 110#  blue cardstock; 65# white
  • Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black dye ink
  • Brutus Monroe Alabaster pigment ink
  • Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen – clear
  • Copic markers: C1, 3; G24; RV02, 04, 63; Y13
  • Pebbles, Inc. Pearlescent Chalks Jewel Tones
  • Ranger Inkssentials Glossy Accents
  • Simply Defined Stay-Put glue & Permanent adhesive
  • Misc. ribbon, faux pearls and puffy heart

I’m playing along with the following challenges – click on any one of them for more information on how you can join the fun:

What? You were expecting something here before I sign off? Ok, I DO have another pic for ya….

Bwahahahaha… This is where I’ll take a picture of TOMORROW’s giveaway. You didn’t think I could have a giveaway on EVERY post, did you? The clearance bins were generous this year (plus I didn’t have a blogiversary party), but not THAT generous. Lol! : ) Now that I’ve got the bulk of them posted, there will still be another giveaway posted tomorrow and more on Saturday, so off you pop to play with your four-legged fur-babies and keep an eye out for upcoming posts! Meanwhile, you can comment on this post without having to come up with a specific word. : ) Likes on Instagram and re-pins on Pinterest are still appreciated! Thanks for all your support!!

Dreamerland Wondering How You Are Doing Kitty Card

Hello again, sweet kitty loving peeps! (and everyone else, which is probably about 1% of you. lol!)

The Cat Lovers Hop continues and, of course, I have yet another kitty card!

Isn’t she just the sweetest? So, is Kitty wondering how the girl is doing or is she writing to someone wondering how they are doing?

One small detail: To give our gal some depth, after stamping and diecutting, I popped just her head up with a foam dot. The girl got folded at the knees and just her feet and head got foam dots. Also, the first pile of stamped books I fussy cut so they’d appear farther back than the diecut pile with the edge.

Supplies:

  • Dreamerland Crafts: Just a Note to Say & Wondering How You are Doing stamp & die sets
  • Tonic Studios: Ornate Frame dies

You Make My Heart Smile – Altenew Friendship Card

Hello once again and welcome to another day of cards and fun giveaways for the Cat Lovers Hop!

Let’s start off with a simple window card:

The inside sentiment is probably too small to read in the picture, so here it is:

A bunch of smiles and a little note to tell you that I care, that’s what I’m sending out to you from my little heart over here. I feel all warm and fuzzy inside when I think of what you mean to me. It brightens my day and puts a smile on my face!

What a wonderful sentiment showing gratitude for friendship! Why, I’d send it to all of you, dear readers!

I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: The gold top shine that you get with the Brilliance inks is, well, brilliant!!

Love the halftone heart as a background for an open heart window!

I’ve been making an effort to finish off my cards with something inside and out and on the envelope, too. Don’t always get it done, but this time I did. : )

Supplies:

  • Altenew: Halftone Hearts, Layered Letters AFG & Modern Cats stamp sets
  • Spellbinders Lace Hearts & Card Creator A2 Divine Eloquence dies
  • The Paper Studio orange card
  • Recollections white and peach cardstock
  • Tsukineko Brilliance Rocket Red Gold pigment ink
  • Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black dye ink
  • Brutus Monroe Alabaster pigment ink
  • Shuttle Art gel pens
  • The Ribbon Boutique paw print ribbon
  • Simply Defined Stay-Put glue

I’m playing along with the following challenges – click on any one of them for more information on how you can join the fun:
