Darling House Mouse Cards

Hello and welcome! Today I have a set of darling House Mouse cards to share with you.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I’ve been trying to keep up with #TheDailyMarker30Day coloring challenge this month. This time around I’ve tried to stretch my coloring skills, and ventured into doing some skies with Copic markers.

Previously, after finishing coloring the main image in Copics, I’ve used chalks for the sky because I would get streaks and unevenness trying to do a sky with Copic markers. I think I’m finally getting the hang of it! On this first card I was also pleased to get a bit of reflection of the walnut in the water, with a natural ripple look, too:

Love the sheen of these DCWV Shimmer Stack papers!! For the inside, I dry embossed the dye (you’ll see it better in the next cards) and used the cutout center as a decorative element:

On the second card, I added some rain to the sky. Here in Florida, it can be both rainy and sunny with a blue sky while raining, rain on one side of the street, but not the other, etc., so I didn’t feel like I needed clouds. I didn’t have a good terracotta color in my Copic collection, but I found that RV 34 and R22 mix together nicely for a close match.

Since part of the die impression reminds me of suns, I ran over the raised ‘suns’ with some yellow chalk and added this little guy celebrating, with my own sentiment:

For the final card, I decided to switch the ice cream color from pink to strawberry-flavored red to match the cardstock. The House Mouse stamps have names for most all of their critters. The bunnies are Hop-it and Itty Bit. I love that little Itty Bit fell asleep in a sugar coma before he got his face and paws cleaned off! : ) I also like that the frame die kind of reminds me of a waffle cone pattern! Since my hands were actually steady today, I took a chance on writing my own sentiment:

Here’s the inside:

Nosy Kitty Goes Nuts Over Secret Acorn! Fun Gift Card Holder

I had so much fun with this next card!!! It’d fit the Coffee Lovers Hop, but right now we’re doing the CAT Lovers Hop!

I just adore the look on the face of this Nosy Kitty stamp by Stampendous! What is he staring so intently at inside that acorn? See how his eyes glisten?!! He’s going nuts waiting  to tear into it, for sure! I love that fab Small Die of the Month Acorn by Spellbinders! It was serendipitous to find the acorn shaped gift cards at Starbucks… the perfect match! I had already snipped off the word Fall even though I ended up putting fall leaves around it. I had done a different background, but didn’t like it, so wanted to cover it up. lol!.

So, I set about making an acorn window/pocket to hold the gift card. My original thought was to make it see-through to the cute pair inside, but I have to admit, by this point I was like a kitten after gorging on milk… barely holding my eyes open. (insert cute viral video of kitten falling asleep here. Lol! >^.^<) I thought the better of chasing my tail all night and kept it fairly simple. Maybe some other time!

On the inside I stamped this cute couple of chipmunks inside the acorn (it must be HUGE). I didn’t want to color them with Copics as they’d bleed through to the back, and they looked too plain uncolored, so I got out my Polychromos and colored them up. This will make a great Thank You card for a couple of coffee loving friends!

To finish off the project, I stamped the cat and a chipmunk with an acorn on the envelope:

Supplies:

  • Spellbinders Small Die of the Month – October 2018
  • Stampendous Nosy Cat stamp
  • Neat & Tangled My Favorite Nut and Purrrfect stamp sets (inside & envelope)
  • Core’dinations white and kraft cardstock
  • Colorbok Shiny Rust Foil Cardstock
  • Tsukineko Memento dye ink: Rich Cocoa & Tuxedo Black
  • Copic markers (cat): C7; E55, 71; G24; R20, 22; Y32; YG17, 61; YR02, 24, 31
  • Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils (inside of card) Brown Ochre, Burnt Carmine, Burnt Sienna, Cadmium Yellow, Dark Cadmium Yellow, Deep Red, Green Gold, May Green, Olive Green, Orange Glaze, Pink Madder Lake, Raw Umber, Van Dyck Brown
  • Pebbles, Inc. Pearlescent Chalks Jewel Tones
  • Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen – clear
  • Ranger Inkssentials Glossy Accents
  • Nicole Maple Leaves
  • The Paper Studio paw gemstones
  • Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue
  • Misc: Starbucks gift card, ribbon, envelope

Fringed & Parrot Tulips with a Jumbo Tulip Thank You Card

Hello! In case you couldn’t tell from the title, today we’re going to focus on tulips. While in Indiana this spring, I saw fringed tulips, parrot tulips and other hybrid tulips for the first time and fell in love! Here are just a few my cousin’s wife has in her garden:

Ah, the beauties of the great outdoors! They’re such a delight to behold and reminded me of the Quietfire stamp that I used for the inside of my card:

Some people, life flowers, give pleasure just by being!

Inspired by those beauties, I used my Polychromos to color up a frilly jumbo tulip by Stampendous for my card:

FYI, the third largest frame in Spellbinders 5×7 Matting Basics B perfectly fits the inner rectangle area inside the pierced dots of the Bella Rose Lattice die, allowing for the white corners. The sentiment is embossed on acetate which I adhered with ‘Stacey Tape.’  The embossing on the tulip is a custom mix…

I mixed Stampendous Pomegranite Opaque with Fran-Tage Opaque Shabby White. I love the mottled look and the flecks of shiny gold!

Since the Serendipity Floral Butterfly wouldn’t fit, I cut off one of its wings (and used the pieces on the inside). To highlight the tulips in the wings, I added Nuvo Crystal drops to them. To finish off, I made a matching envelope:

Supplies used:

  • Stampendous Jumbo Tulip and Jumbo Thank You stamps
  • Spellbinders Chantilly Paper Lace Collection by Becca Feeken
    • Bella Rose Lattice Layering Frame
    • Lunette Arched Borders
  • Spellbinders Card Creator 5×7 Matting Basics B
  • Serendipity Stamps Floral Butterfly die
  • Quietfire Design Garden Delights stamp set
  • Tsukineko Versamark ink

  • Brutus Monroe Alabaster pigment ink
  • SMS ‘Stacey Tape’

Stampendous Laurel Burch Coffee Mug Card and Gift Set

Good Monday morning my coffee deprived peeps! I have another fun card for you for the Summer 2017 Coffee Lovers Blog Hop.

I actually got up in time to see sunrise at the beach this morning and I took along my Laurel Burch umbrella to show you (you’ll see why in a minute):

A friend of mine has that same bag and since Bealls, FL, just had a sale on the matching umbrella and mug, I got them for her and then pulled out my Stampendous Laurel Burch stamps and made this mug card to go with them:

I printed the template for the card from Splitcoast Stampers HERE. I cut it out twice to cover the backs of each side where the Copics bled through. (Don’t forget to color it OPEN let your Copics bleed onto the sentiment page! Wonder how I know that?!!)

And here’s the detail. I HAD to throw in that pup with the butterflies on him… too stinkin’ cute! I love how the IrRESISTible Pico Embellisher adds those fab shiny dots! Both Stampendous sets come with stencils to help you color. I used the circles and triangles from the Indigo Cat set.

Supplies used:

  • Stampendous stamp sets: Laurel Burch Indigo Cats, Laurel Burch Dog Park, Thoughtful Wishes
  • Core’dinaations white cardstock
  • Tsukineko Versamark ink
  • Zing! gold embossing powder glitter finish
  • Imagine Crafts IrRESISTible Pico embellisher: gold
  • Copic markers: B21,24,29,69; BV02; G24; R22; V04; Y17; YR02,04
  • Memento Tuxedo Black dye ink
  • Pebbles, Inc. Chalks
  • iCraft Therm-o-Web adhesive runner

I am playing along with the following hops and challenges… click on any one of them for more information on how you can join the fun.

We’re Like Tea Bags Card and Peppermint Spoons Experiment

Hello again! It’s time for a fun tea card for the Winter Coffee Lovers Blog Hop and the results of my experiment in making peppermint spoons:

20151213_153052W

A couple of weeks ago I saw a post about making your own peppermint spoons and since they ran out at Tuesday Morning, I decided to try it. You can read the instructions in original post on Jennifer’s blog HERE. She made hers in the oven, but I wanted to try them in the microwave. I also wanted just the bowl of the spoon as I usually use these for tea parties (see my post HERE, if you haven’t read about those yet) and the cups are small. So I smashed up a bunch of peppermint candies and filled my Wilton Silicone Candy Spoon Mold, putting some Celebrate It! Popsicle Sticks in some and leaving two 100% candy.

20151209_085420W

It took less than 20 seconds for the first one to start bubbling, and they each started

bubbling at different times, while the full one on the end never bubbled at all.

20151209_085744W

I kept adding more crushed candy a few seconds at a time, but the end results weren’t terrific. The one that never bubbled came out the best. The one next to it bubbled so much it lost its color and the bowls of the spoons ran on up the handles and wouldn’t look nice:

20151209_093128W

Now, my microwave is small, so it may not have the even distribution that a larger, more expensive model has, but I still recommend following the original instructions and making these in the oven! Now it’s time for me to take a break with my Chocolate Macadamia Nut tea and peppermint spoon dipped in chocolate and dunked in sprinkles!

20151213_153114W

One additional note for lovers of mint chocolate… My aunt told me about making brownies with a layer of Andes Creme de Menthe Chocolates – it sounded wonderful! Target had some brownie bites on sale and Andes chocolates were on sale, too, soooooo… If you put 1/2 a mint on a brownie bite and put it in the microwave 10-15 seconds… YUM!

Well, this IS supposed to be a CARD making post, so I’d best get to it, eh?! That fun wintry sea background was made by dry embossing soft aluminum.

20151212_151427W

I embossed the reverse side, then flipped it over and lightly sanded the raised areas to bring out the silvery white of the waves in the wintry sea.

20151212_151524W

I felt they needed a little bit more ‘foam’, so I added some Glass Bead Glitter Gel to the crests of the waves and even splashes some onto our intrepid penguins and their vessel. If you click on the picture you should be able to enlarge it and see the splashes.

20151213_153337W

I love that sentiment that we are all like tea bags: You don’t know how strong you are until you’ve been in a little hot water!

I can almost hear the penguins now:

Kowalski: Sir, How long do we stand here like this?

Skipper: Until we reach maximum coolness.

[beat]

Skipper: There it is!

Smile and wave, boys!

Materials used:

  • AMACO Paragona ArtEmboss Colored Foils Cerulean Blue soft aluminum embossing sheets
  • Stampendous/Dreamweaver Waves stencil LJ838
  • The Cat’s Pajamas: Ship Happens stamp set
  • Spellbinders Romantic Rectangles 2 dies

  • EK Success Writer Metallic Silver
  • Faber-Castell Glass Bead Glitter Gel
  • Tombow Xtreme and Mono Permanent Adhesives, Adhesive dots

I’m playing along in the following hops and challenges:

Thinking of You Fish Bowl – Cat Lovers Hop Finale + Blog Candy

Here we go… the grand finale of the Cat Lovers Hop! It has been a fun week of all things feline!

2015HerPeacefulGarden

Jamis, at Her Peaceful Garden, organized this fun hop and she and her four-legged friends deserve a huge round of applause, as do all of the fab sponsors!! Raise your paw if you agree!

20150806_153944aW

(By the way, this paw belongs to Charlie, my friend’s Main Coon cat. If you want to see the rest of him, you can check out the post HERE)

I have a fun Thinking of You card for today:

20151025-203322aW

Here it is open. I really love that adorable kitty by Stampendous! And I think it’s funny that he’s looking at the fish and ‘thinking of you.’ lol! I debated stamping Thinking of You again on the inside to match up, but decided that would leave me with little room to write a message, so left it as is.

20151025_203545aW

This was my first attempt at coloring on acetate with Copic markers. It was a learning experience! Since the ink sits on top of the acetate, they do not blend. You can, however, get some neat texture with a little practice.

20151017_095656aW

Unfortunately my first attempt was too dark and you couldn’t see the cat very well through the fish bowl. Back to the drawing board!

The other thing you have to remember when using Copics on acetate is that the colors come out MUCH lighter than the do on paper. It took me several tries to get them dark enough to be seen.

20151017_115645aW 20151017_141559aW

20151017_220420aW

This time I put Glossy Accets over it for water and it turned out MUCH better. Of course had I wanted NO bubbles, there would have been oodles of ’em. There were still a few and they look terrific.

20151016_183840aW

I put glossy accents on the cat’s eyes, too for a little more realism. You can’t hardly tell in the pictures, but once I added the Distress Inks, I sprinkled some water over the card, so there are water spots as if someone’s naughty little paw has been splashing around in the water!

20151025_203454aW

Well, hello there! Are you still sticking around?! I reckon you – like your four legged furry friends – think you deserve a treat, eh?! I DO have another small blog candy package up for grabs:

20151025_220928a

A ‘Meow!’ Cat magnet, a foot of paw print ribbon (yes, I DO see the irony in that!) and a couple of kitty embellishments for your next cat card.

If you’d like to have a chance at winning this little package, pay close attention: Leave ONE comment on this post telling me: What’s the most cats you’ve had at one time? (I think Janis will win in quantity, but the drawing will be random!). You must leave your comment before 11:59 p.m. PACIFIC time, Sunday, November 1, 2015. If you don’t tell me the highest number of cats you’ve ever had, I’ll assume you’re not interested in the blog candy. If you are (or become) a follower of this blog, you can make a SECOND comment telling me so for an additional entry. On November 2, 2015 I will use Mr. Random org to draw a winner from the comments that qualify and TRY to announce it here on the blog. I will be in an area with spotty internet, so if there is no announcement on November 2nd, I will announce the winner on November 10, 2015. The winner will have 72 hours to contact me with their snail-mail address or another winner will be chosen.

Well, it’s been a fun week I hope you enjoyed your visits here and hope to see you again! I’ll sign off now as Tigger would:

TTFN (which, for those who have forgotten, stands for Ta-Ta For Now!)

-D.Ann

akkk… now I’ve got the Tigger song running through my head… ‘their heads are made out of rubber, their tales are made out of springs’….  I guess we DID have a ‘bouncy, bouncy, fun, fun, fun, fun’ week hopping around, didn’t we?!! >^.^<
