Clearly Besotted Fluffy Furball Stand Up Card

Good morning sweet kits! It may be the penultimate day of the Cat Lovers Hop, but we’re not winding down! It’s full steam ahead, tho’ some of us are just running on catnip and coffee by now!

If you’re not one of them (or, perhaps, even if you are), you may look as bright eyed and bushy tailed as these cute kits:

I stamped and fussy-cut them, then stacked them up, intertwining their tales. With Glossy Accents, their eyes almost look like googly eyes!

This stand-up card starts out flat, to fit in the envelope. The top flap lifts up and folds back down.

Here’s a view looking at the back:

There is a small tab on the ‘base’ that it rests against to hold it up for display.

The Aristocats – Everybody Wants to Be A Cat Pivot Pop-Up Card

What is it that everybody wants to be? If you remember the tune from the 1970 Disney movie, The Aristocats (Yes, I know a lot of you hoppers weren’t even born back then, but surely you’ve seen this cute film!), you know that it fits purr-fectly with the Cat Lovers Hop!

I will admit that I got stumped after I made the inside and had stamped Roquefort the mouse on the front looking in at Berloiz on the phonograph, I could’t think of what to put on the front of the card. I had thought of putting something about losing something since the song inside continues, “because a cat’s the only cat who knows where it’s at!’ (Oh, yeah!) But I couldn’t really think of anything that really worked. Then I was looking for some musical note stamps and remembered the Hero Arts My Monthly Hero from April and the Cinco de Meow stamp sets and used “Gato feel the Mewsic!” Which is a fun play on the Spanish word for cat (gato) which can sound similar to ‘got to.’ Still, I’d love to hear if you have any good ideas for a cover sentiment as I’m sure I’ll be making this card again! Please let me know!!

I happen to like several features about this card. First: the cover cardstock. I don’t know how long JoAnn’s new line called Park Lane has had this 110# marbled cardstock, but it’s fabulous (they have other patterns, too)! The core and back side are white which is perfect for the inside of cards and 110# feels like a ‘real’ card. I’m hooked!!

TIP: When using the pivot pop-up, don’t forget to leave the card area smooth in the two spots where the corners will be brushing against it as they go up and down. (as in it catches just slightly on the edge of the frame… I should have left the inside frame off.)

Also, things can hang over the ‘mountain’ edges of the pop up panels if you don’t glue them down…  and don’t go beyond the edges of the card when folded down.

I also love that Berloiz on the phonograph disappears as you open the card and it pivots for the pop up panels! where scat cat and his gang, along with the kittens are feeling the beat as O’Malley is mesmerized by Duchess’ sapphire eyes. I will definitely be making an anniversary card with them and his famous quote: ‘Why, your eyes are like sapphires sparkling so bright. They make the morning radiant and light!’ : )

I had thought to made the background a night sky using the paper I marbled with Marabu Easy Marble (see THIS post if you missed it), but then I decided to put in the window and that didn’t work. (Although I did ponder a bit over whether I could have something like a shooting star on the front of the card swing down into the window when you open it. But I already had smoke coming out of my head trying to make the window just right for the phonograph stamp. Lol!) So now it’s just some wild wallpaper… typical of Scat cat and his gang! By the way… did you see notice how the gold shines?!!

Of course, the card wouldn’t be complete without Napoleon asserting his rank! I printed the adapted quote on label paper, then die-cut it. Peel & stick is so easy… Hmmm… I think I should use label paper more often! : )

Here’s a video of the card in action. If you get this post as an e-mail, you will need to click on the post title to see it online, then scroll down and find this picture again and click in the middle of it (there should be a white arrow):

Art Impressions Kitten Vanity PopCard

Popping back in with a darling pop-up card for the Cat Lovers Hop.

The current Art Impressions Challenge is Add Embellishments. My embellishing starts with paper… I chose this weathered wood paper to look like the exterior of a house.

Note to self: don’t tack down the bottom of the background paper on the front of the card  until AFTER cutting the slits for pop-up mechanism… BELIEVE me, it’s better!! : )

On the ‘wall’ I hung some Graphic 45 ‘pictures’ and there are ribbon ‘curtains.’ I love the realistic antics of these stamped kittens whether they’re getting into everything or snoozing away!! A perfect fit for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: Animal Antics and the Lost Coast Designs & Carmen’s Veranda Challenge #63 Cats & Dogs!

There is some twine to make the yarn ball more realistic. For the ribbed ‘wood baseboards’, I took a thin strip of kraft paper and scored along it every 1/8″, then shaved an 1/8″ piece perpendicular to the scoring.

Add a few well placed “meows”, including one for the extra kitty who’s managed to get in behind the vanity, climb up the back, and is mischievously about to bat at the roses!

Embellishing also means bling… foil for the mirror, glossy accents for the vase and eyes and loads of Sparkle Pen to add shine to the purse, fur stole, hat and roses. Oh, and don’t forget to embellish the envelope with a few stamps, too. : )

Let’s Be Purr-Maids 3D Collapsible Tunnel Card

Hi, all! I’m excited to show you today’s project!! I have a friend who loves cats and she likes mermaids, too… in fact she and her husband like watching some of the Australian mermaid shows. So this card was just purr-fect for her. The timing was also perfect as the current Inky Paws Challenge #78 is: Summer/Beach Theme.

Here we go….

I know, right?!! CATs as mermaids… everyone has dreams! I love the ombre blues leading back to that fabulous wave. (which, together with the sun and birds fits the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge – Make Your Own Background.) All the layers made it easy to stack in a tropical coconut drink,, sand dollar, starfish and a crab in a fishing net to give the scene added depth. I even stuck a cat’s paw shell on the front, along with a baby scallop shell.

The current Emerald Creek Dare is The Great Outdoors #27-40, and this fits perfectly since in Florida the Great outdoors is definitely at the beach! For the mermaids’ tails, I used Rita Barakat ‘s new Magical Mysteries – Mermaid Fin embossing powder by Emerald Creek Craft Supplies in Canada. (Watch THIS page for them… coming soon! (Not wanting to wait, I got mine from Rita’s shop.))  I did the tail diving into the water first and was disappointed that a lot of it came out clear (but it was still nifty)….  Seems I hadn’t mixed it up well enough and the second one looks just fin… I mean fine! : )

Look carefully at the angle of the tail in back diving into that fabulous wave…  now turn the card around to the back for the surprise….

There she is coming out the other side! : )  By the way… my friend AND her husband loved it! In her thank-you note she said: A. immediately put it on display in our family room, which is high honor from a guy who won’t let anything extra sit out to clutter the room!

The other cool thing is that this card is collapsible and can fold down flat for shipping:

Spellbinders Elegant 3D Vignettes – Happily Ever After Ombre Card

Greetings!

Today I’m tickled pink to show you a fabulously designed tunnel card that folds up, but first I want to tell you a story…  Just about a year ago I got this Flight Of The Butterflies Vintage card kit: Butterfly Echo by Hunkydory Crafts:

It’s a gorgeous foiled tunnel card with each progressive layer showing more of the image. You know I love 3d and interactive cards…

The coolest part of it is that it folds flat for easy mailing!

The shape of it reminded me of some of my Spellbinders dies, so I’ve had it sitting on my desk to remind me to try to see if I could make something similar. However, the past year’s health issues haven’t allowed much creativity.

Fast forward a year to the recent release by the ever-so-creative Becca Feeken of her Spellbinders Elegant 3D Vignettes … she has more than surpassed my idea with her beautiful designs. Here is the Grand Cabinet put together:

Isn’t it just gorgeous?!! I love the look of a lovely garden arch with flowers!  And,    yes, it folds down flat, too, for easy mailing (if you don’t add 3d flower, that is. : )

Those flowers from the Happily Ever After set are SO sweet!

They have kind of heart shaped petals and can be layered in a variety of combinations. I didn’t take the time to shape each petal, just pushed down in the center.

Becca has an easy-to-follow instruction video on putting the tunnel card together and since I can’t improve on it, I’ll like to it HERE in case you’re interested. I can’t find where, but I think she recommended using 80# cardstock. FYI – I used #110 because that’s all I had with ombre pink colors. The slots were a but snug, but they worked.

On the back… I know those tabs on the sides were supposed to be tucked inside, but I was worried they might show and I wanted the back to be white. Note to self: they would NOT have shown through… Next time trust the designer… Becca thought of everything when she designed this!!

I wanted a card to write on rather than just writing on the back of the ‘cabinet’ so I cut another Filigree Veil and used it as a holder for the inserts that I’d cut out of the first three layers of the front of the card. They fit perfectly inside the veil and can be pulled out so you can write on both sides should you so desire. It also perfectly hides a gift card!

Supplies used:

  • Spellbinders Elegant 3D Vignettes dies: Grand Cabinet 3d Card, Layered Happily Ever After and Filigree Veil (all the way in the back as a background)
  • Recollections #110 cardstock Ballerina, pale pink and white
  • Elmer’s School Glue
  • Martha Stewart Crafts Metallic Glass Microbeads: tourmaline
  • Pebbles, Inc. Chalks

I’m playing along with the following challenges… click on any one of them for more information on how you can join the fun:

Thank you for stopping by today. Hopefully, in the near future, I’ll have more projects for you with this fun die set! I always enjoy reading your encouraging comments!
