MFT Creative Olympics Event 1- Stamping Slalom: Kitties Hard at Work Card

Hello and welcome! Since the Olympics are in progress, My Favorite Things is hosting the Creative Olympics.

Medals and prizes will be awarded later this week. I’m probably one of the last entries as it took me a while to finish up…. let’s just say my plane arrived late. lol! But even with jet lag (aka migraine head), I managed to get in on the action. yay!

Event 1 is the Stamping Slalom at the Olympic Stadium (MFT blog)…. a test of creativity in combining images from three different stamp sets. I came up with this humorous card:

I just think it’s too funny that the lazy cat is watching TV (probably the Kitty Olympics) where her buddy is hard at work playing with a ball of yarn! lol! Now all I need is a great punch line for the inside. Got any ideas?

Materials used:

  • My Favorite Things stamp sets: I Knead You; At the Office and Office Space
  • Tsukineko Versamark ink
  • Ranger Wendi Vecchi embossing powder – Watering Can
  • Hampton Arts embossing powder – yellow
  • Recollections Detail embossing powder – Ebony
  • Tsukineko Memento dye ink – London Fog
  • Sakura Pigma Micron 05 pen
  • Tombow Dual Brush markers: 025, 055, 673, 761, 985, 992, N65
  • Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Foam adhesive squares

I’m playing along with the following hops and challenges – click on any of them for details on how you can join the fun:

Stay tuned, Event 2 is coming up shortly!

Double Sided, Multi-Colored, Multi-Window Uchi’s Design Animated Cat Card

Hello, hello! Here we are on the penultimate day of the Cat Lovers Hop.

As the saying goes: ‘Time sky raisins when you’re having fun!’ What?! Since there are so many new hoppers, I HAVE to re-share with you my favorite cat meme and you’ll understand:

Three years in a row and it still makes me laugh!

I have my last interactive card to show you today and it’s a doozy… In fact, it can only REALLY be appreciated in a video. so here’s one from Instagram. (Roll your mouse over the picture and click the white arrow to play it):

It’s so mesmerizing, I could play with it for hours!

I just LOVE animated cards and am tickled that my first attempt turned out as well as it did! I have a bonus tutorial for you. I used Uchi’s Animation Die Cut to make that flower! So another way to stretch your dies, should you have it (or be able to talk some sweet friend or relative into getting it for you!). So you’re going to turn this grid into that flower:

First you have to trim down the grid leaving the same width at the top and bottom. You don’t want this too thick because that’s how much your flower will stick up off your card.

Next you gently fold the grid around a pen and glue the ends together. Use the barrel of the pen to smooth out the curves of the ‘petals.’

Then you run a bead of glue along the bottom seam and start rolling it over on itself, molding it into a circle.

Here’s what it looks like all rolled up. (Hmph… I see I didn’t worry too much about curving the petals since I was just demo-ing for you… they are rather pointy. Oh well…)

Then you gently separate the petals and pull them out to the sides and put a brad in the center and tah-dah… a cute little flower!

You can also see from these close-ups, the advantage of using the Animation Die versus just buying the sheets… You can color it to match your stamp… even using multiple colors!

I waited to color the grids to match until AFTER I could set the stamped pull tab in the middle of the card and see where the colors needed to be on the grids, but BEFORE I closed it up… that way I could do it over scratch paper and not worry about getting any ink on my stamped slider.

Note: I tried putting just a solid color (black or other) as a grid over the colored stamped images and they also worked as animated images. It’s just cooler when the colors match!

Did you notice that the same pull tab animates both sides (simultaneously)! That was not without some engineering obstacles… for example the first time I stamped my images – after I had already figured out and made the front and back — oops! I did them in reverse and had to re-stamp them (which was much easier than lining up my grids again!).

By the way – don’t let this semi-complicated card intimidate you. You can make these very simple with just one animated image and they’re just as entertaining!

Her are the still pictures of the card. Here’s the front. ( I added that cute kitty sticker going for the dragonfly – doesn’t it look like he’s just about to pounce!):

And here’s the back. I like the optical illusion of the background paper mixed with these animations! Wish I knew the manufacturer, I’d get more!

Materials used:

  • Uchi’s Design Animation Stamp sets: Loving Cat; Growing Garden; Butterflies
  • Uchi’s Design Animation Grid Die (Thank you , Uchi’s for this prize when you released it on Instagram!!)
  • Spellbinders dies: Classic Circles, Gold Circles One and Exquisite Circles

Sweet & Sassy LOL Cats Humorous Thank You Card

Hello, again, peeps! I’m back once again with another card for the Summer 2017 Coffee Lovers Blog Hop.

  20170623_CLH

This time I played around with some masking from Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps LOL Cats for this fun card in summer orange, titled: The Mystery of the Empty Cup:

This is extra funny considering that the question could be raised by either one of them… If the black cat is anything like me, I often raise my cup only to find it’s empty and I don’t recall drinking it. LOL! But as we look inside we know who the real culprit was (and why he didn’t go for the mouse)…

Materials used:

  • Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps: LOL Cats and Pick Me Up stamp sets
  • Spellbinders Card Creator A2 Filigree Delight dies
  • Memento Tuxedo Black dye ink
  • Simon Says Stamp Sunkist Hybrid ink
  • Tombow Dual Brush Pens: N15, N89, 723, 761, 873, 905, 933
  • Sakura Pigma Micron black 005 archival ink pen
  • Sakura Gelly Roll pen – white
  • Tonic Nuvo Crystal Drops Gloss Sugared Almond
  • Core’dinations cardstock: white & orange
  •  Tombow Mono adhesive

I am playing along with the Summer 2017 Coffee Lovers Blog Hop click on it for more information on how you can join the fun.

Thanks again for stopping by!

Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop – Get Well Card

It’s that time of year again! The Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop kicks off today. Yay!

The worst part of summer? Summer colds!! What could cheer one up more than an hot cuppa coffee or tea,a yummy short stack and some sunny summer flowers in bed?!!

I thing that Breakfast in Bed tray die from SugarPea Designs is genius! Their current challenge is Mix It Up:

I faded the red to pink and used lots of circles – plus the roses on the ‘bedspread’ reminded me of those roses. Simon Says Stamps Wednesday Challenge is to use patterned paper: I had started off with some chevron paper from Fancy Pants Design as I was going to make a quilt to cover the bed. (More on that in a minute). For the paper-pieced items on the tray I had to place a couple of pieces together with scotch tape and then die-cut. You don’t notice the seam unless you look close.

Unfortunately, the quilt didn’t look right… the tray kind of got lost on it. Well, when you think about it – who has dishes that match their bedspread?!! lol! So I chose a muted floral pattern for my bedspread. The wood paneled walls are made from the packaging of the Fancy Pants ephemera and buttons sets… They outta make that pattern into cardstock, I love it!! The pillow and tissues are made from a real Puffs tissue.

Materials used:

  • SugarPea Designs: Breakfast in Bed stamps & SugarCut dies
  • Fancy Pants Designs: As You Wish collection: Button pack (button & packaging), Ephemera pack (packaging), This & That paper (inside tray, dishes, teapot & tissue box) and Well Traveled paper (outside of tray)
  • The Paper Studio: Eloise Floral paper (bedspread)
  • Core’dinations white cardstock (flowers & pancakes)
  • Foray 30# translucent Inkjet Vellum (flower vase)
  • Memento Rose Bud dye ink
  • Tombow Dual Brush Pens: 059, 195, 296, 933, 942, 977
  • Tsukineko Versamark ink
  • Stampendous PEARLustre embossing powder: Rose Quartz
  • Tsukineko Radiant Neon Amplify: white (whipped topping)
  • Tonic Studios Nuvo Crystal Drops: Morning Dew (syrup and coffee/tea)
  • Offray Stylish Accents: Elegant Loop Flower w/ Pearl (‘throw pillow’)
  • Recollections: Lace on a Roll (around pillow & on button)
  • Tombow Xtreme and Mono permanent adhesives
  • Misc: Foam dot, Lace, Puffs tissue, Scotch tape

I am participating in the following hops and challenges. Click on any one of them for more information on how you can join the fun!

I’d hoped to do a belated blogiversary giveaway sometime soon, but haven’t been well enough and now I have meet with the surgeon on Monday. So, perhaps in a few weeks when I’m better we’ll have a party! You might want to be subscribed to my blog so you don’t miss it! (hint-hint) Meanwhile, I’ll be back tomorrow with another fun card for the Coffee Lovers Hop. Hope to see you then! Happy hopping!!

Florida 2016 Winter Coffee Lovers Hop Greeting Card

Welcome to the first day of the 2016 Winter Coffee Lovers Hop!

20161201_clh

For most of you, winter = snow. Here in Florida, it just means more people as y’all come down here on vacation to get away from that cold white stuff and to stick your toes in the warm sand! 😄

20161128_102555

When I first saw this cute Florida scene from Sweet Stamp Shop, I immediately noticed the building that looked like a coffee cup. I’m sure if a coffee lover had a building like that they’d paint it with a green circle and swizzle stick, don’tcha think? A true coffee house!

20161128_102753

I gave the waves some dimensional whitecaps with a Texture Gems pen and added lots of sparked to the mermaid’s tail with the Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen. I used Wink of Stella for a little less flashy sparkle in her hair and on the boat. I like the Texture Gems dimensional golden coconuts, too (tho they’re blurry in this close-up).

20161128_102832

I also drug it through the sun before the ink was dry to get the effect of sun rays or solar flares/prominences.

Simon Says Stamp’s current Work-it-Wednesday challenge is to use dies for DieCember(TM). To get the lovely open scrollwork edges, I just cut the Spellbinders Timeless Rectangles die twice and glued them together at the top.

20161128_102644

It opens with just a shadow of palm trees inside and plenty of space for a message.

20161128_102615

Supplies used:

  • Spellbinders Timeless Rectangles dies
  • Sweet Stamp Shop: Sunshine State & Hello Florida stamp sets
  • Recollections Big Bloom cardstock pack & white cardstock
  • Memento dye inks: London Fog, Pear Tart
  • Tombow Dual Brush Pens: N55, 65, 89; 055, 090, 158, 177, 195, 296, 373, 443, 451, 533, 565, 603, 673, 725, 761, 850, 856, 905, 933, 942, 985
  • Zig Wink of Stella
  • Spectrum Noir Sparkle – Clear
  • Faber-Castell Texture Gems – White & Gold
  • Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L EZ Runner permanent adhesive

I’m looking forward to seeing you again as the hop continues. Hopefully I’ll get a small bit of blog candy together for you, so do check back!

I’m off now to see what’s out there already… it’s always a treat to see so many talented entries.

Thanks for stopping by!

Another Watercolor Lift Technique Card

Good evening. Since I was playing around and there are still a few hours left to hop, I thought I’d go ahead and post this.

20160325_184708aW

No, I didn’t pick up the same card and re-post it (from THIS post). : )

I’m leaving it small because it’s even more pixilated than the previous one.

When I started this, back in February, I’d hoped to post some more about the process of the watercolor lifting technique, and compare the results with Distress Inks and Tombow Dual Brush Pens.

Here is how they started out. Distress Inks are on the top and Tombow markers on the bottom. Then, after adding clear embossed images…

20160222_215524aW    20160301_181755aW

  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Inks : Picked Raspberry, Festive Berries, Spiced Marmalade
  • Tombow Dual Brush Pens: 985, 933, 905, 845, 856

Next, I took a wet paper towel and lifted off some of the color that wasn’t under the embossing. On both I had to watch myself as I had a tendency to lift off to much ink. On the left is the one with Distress Inks, On he right, Tombow Dual Brush Pens

20160325_184822aW

Yesterday my crafting partner came to visit and we were looking at the one on the left and thought It might have looked better with the ribbon extending to the left. So I tried that today. Other than that fact that I couldn’t get the ribbon perfectly straight (definitely over-tired! I don’t know why?!! lol!), which one do YOU like best? Extended ribbon or short ribbon?

Materials used:

  • Taylord Expressions Teacup Bouquet stamp set & Little Bits Teapot die
  • Inkadinkado stamp sets: Asian by Design, Damsk Motifs, Gem Stone Flowers, Gemstones Insects, Happy Spring Day, Nature,Pretty Flowers, Utopiary
  • Tombow Dual Brush Pens: 985, 933, 905, 845, 856
  • Tsukineko Brilliance pigment ink – Robust Red Gold
  • Versamark Ink
  • Inkadinkado embossing powder – Linen White
  • Craftin’ Desert Divas pink heart sequins
  • Core’dinations cardstock – white
  • Strathmore Cold Press Watercolor Paper
  • Tombow Xtreme permanent adhesive
  • Aleene’s Tacky Glue
  • Angel Crafts 1/2″ double sided adhesive
  • Misc. ribbon

Well, dear crafty peeps, it was a fun hop! I’m exhausted and still have a lot of commenting and browsing to do on the rest of your entries – which have been outstanding so far! I think I’ll work on that tomorrow. Thanks, again, for stopping by and for all your kind comments! It will be a while before I recuperate and post again. For those of you who only stop by during the hops, see you in three months. For those of you who follow my blog regularly, I’ll probably see you in a couple of weeks.

Hello – Hero Arts Floral Card

Happy Friday! You say goodbye and I say hello! Hello! HELLO!! Ok, enough of the Beetles song stuck in my head. Here’s the card I have for you today:

20160226_162357aW

Jessica over at AllTheSparkle is celebrating her 2k Instagram followers and has a challenge going using these colors:

20160226_165621

I’ve been playing with a watercolor lifting technique that I saw over on Jennifer Mcguire’s blog. (You can get the details here.) First I scribbled my Tombow markers over watercolor paper and blended with water, then clear embossed my Hero Arts background stamp.

20160226_124956aW

Then lift the color with a wet paper towel.

20160226_150938aW

The part under the embossing stays dark and the rest lightens. I thought I’d try to save that lifted ink and tried just laying a damp dryer sheet or a damp paper towel over the image and pressing down, but it really needed rubbing to lift off the ink, so my little idea of getting some extra mileage out of it didn’t work. I suppose if you did enough of the same color, you could saturate the paper towel enough to re-use it in another project. That wasn’t happening today, though. I’ll have another post on this, soon, comparing the technique with other mediums.

20160226_162357aW

Materials used:

  • Hero Arts Antique Brocade and Asian Frames stamp sets
  • Papertrey Ink Swoosh die
  • Tombow Dual Brush Pens:195,  243, 673, 676, 685, 703, 723
  • Versamark ink
  • JoAnn Craft Essentials clear embossing powder
  • Recollections Ebony Detail embossing powder
  • Hampton Arts green embossing powder
  • Core’dinations cream & green cardstock
  • Neenah Astroparche cardstock
  • Nicole Spangles flower sequins
  • Tombow Xtreme permanent adhesive
  • Ranger Inkssentials glossy accents
  • Misc ribbon

I’m playing along with the following challenges if you’d like to check them out:

I hope to be back soon with more cards as they get finished up. Thanks for stopping by!
