For those of you not interested in the details, feel free to scroll on to the end, I won’t be offended. ; )

Coloring this was a learning experience as those of you who have been following it on Instagram know. It was the first time I’ve tried doing a blonde with Copics.

After I got her done, I realized I wanted a rich blue watercolor background. She wasn’t on watercolor paper, so I knew the ink would absorb to a lighter color, but  I decided to try.

First I masked her off with Fineline Masking Fluid. Being Miss Frugal, I only outlined her to keep the watercolor from intruding into the already colored area. The mask goes on green, then turns clearish as it dries and rubs off when you’re done. I found out later why the pros mask the entire image… it DOES lift a tiny bit of the color. : (

Next I grabbed my Yasutomo metallic watercolors and put a wash of the darkest blue on. I knew they’d be lighter, but was highly disappointed with how light…

I was recently given a set of Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors that everyone has been raving about. I really wanted to play around a bit and get better at water coloring before using them, but I wanted my bold blue background, so pulled them out…

20150604_194400aW

No wonder everyone raves about them! The happy accident that I couldn’t catch on camera is that the metallic Yasutomo mixed in and gives it a nice shimmer. It makes me giggle when I looked at her in this pic as it looks like she’d decided to start not just a facial, but a whole body mask… hmmm… wonder if… nah! Hahaha!

Once dry, I started rubbing off the mask… Unfortunately the picture doesn’t capture how it lightened the coloring. It was easy to fix, though. Just had to take the Copic markers back over those areas and blend.

I also added in a little bit of steam from the cup. : )

Put it all together following the sketch from Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps and added the fun embossed sentiment from Ms. Kimm Creates: Daily Brew… it was Blog candy I won from the Spring Coffee Lovers Blog Hop… thanks again, Holly of KopyKat Creations!

I figure any coffee loving cardmaker will love these adorable ‘Brewchitecture’ napkins by Jill Seale. One pack is “coffee” the other is “café presse.” And, since we are cardmakers, there’s also a new, small Studio g stamp set: ” delight in little things.”  If you would like to have a chance to win this package, all you have to do is leave a comment on any of my blog hop posts from now through June 12, 2015. Of course, I appreciate those who sign up to follow the blog, but it’s not a requirement. From all the comments left on my blog posts from June 5 – 12 that have “Blog candy” in the title, I will announce a winner, selected at random, on June 14, 2015. (This date is revised from my original post.) The winner will have 72 hours to respond, or I will draw another winner.

Now, off you pop to the rest of the hop! Have fun!!

  1. Darling image! And you did a wonderful job with the copics and the watercolors. The sentiment just cracks me up! Thanks for sharing how that mask works too; I’ve often wondered about it but am not brave enough to try it, lol. Sweet card.

  3. Oh how fun, yes, you can put my name on your posts, and it’s Holly, lol. Love that you used the caffeine loading with her, it’s so perfect. your blond hair came out fabulous. I am not a fan of any liquids onto my images. Once i color them up and if I want to air spray or sponge, I found post it makes a 3 inch labeling tape, which is perfect for stampers because most images are less than 3 inches wide. http://www.amazon.com/Post–Labeling-695-Inches-Yards/dp/B000SPHL0O/ref=sr_1_52?ie=UTF8&qid=1433727211&sr=8-52&keywords=post-it%27s. anyhoo, fabulous card and thanks so much for the chance to win your blog candy.
