Another Watercolor Lift Technique Card

Good evening. Since I was playing around and there are still a few hours left to hop, I thought I’d go ahead and post this.

No, I didn’t pick up the same card and re-post it (from THIS post). : )

I’m leaving it small because it’s even more pixilated than the previous one.

When I started this, back in February, I’d hoped to post some more about the process of the watercolor lifting technique, and compare the results with Distress Inks and Tombow Dual Brush Pens.

Here is how they started out. Distress Inks are on the top and Tombow markers on the bottom. Then, after adding clear embossed images…

  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Inks : Picked Raspberry, Festive Berries, Spiced Marmalade
  • Tombow Dual Brush Pens: 985, 933, 905, 845, 856

Next, I took a wet paper towel and lifted off some of the color that wasn’t under the embossing. On both I had to watch myself as I had a tendency to lift off to much ink. On the left is the one with Distress Inks, On he right, Tombow Dual Brush Pens

Yesterday my crafting partner came to visit and we were looking at the one on the left and thought It might have looked better with the ribbon extending to the left. So I tried that today. Other than that fact that I couldn’t get the ribbon perfectly straight (definitely over-tired! I don’t know why?!! lol!), which one do YOU like best? Extended ribbon or short ribbon?

Well, dear crafty peeps, it was a fun hop! I’m exhausted and still have a lot of commenting and browsing to do on the rest of your entries – which have been outstanding so far! I think I’ll work on that tomorrow. Thanks, again, for stopping by and for all your kind comments! It will be a while before I recuperate and post again. For those of you who only stop by during the hops, see you in three months. For those of you who follow my blog regularly, I’ll probably see you in a couple of weeks.

Hugs,

-D.Ann

  1. If I had to choose I like the one on the left where the ribbon doesn’t extend, but I am a fan of white space, having a place for your eye to rest. Both are great designs!

  3. BEAUTIFUL, BOTH are BEAUTIFUL and the technique is EXCITING!!!
I prefer the shorter ribbon version, the colours work perfectly with the inky panel and looks more ELEGANT with only the sentiment & hearts to the left … I confess that I struggle with white space and would probably have put the ribbon all the way across, so I appreciate your comparison and will try harder to keep with the “less is more” approach 🙂

  4. Such a fun and clever design, and I love your gorgeous gradient panel and the way the hearts are pouring out from the tea pot onto the sentiment. I prefer the one with the shorter ribbon. Maybe you could even try a third version: without the ribbon. But then you would probably need to move the sentiment further down. Thanks for the inspiration! May have to try this myself.

  5. This was fantastic to be able to see the comparison of products here! And what a beautiful final project you created. I love how it looks and thought the cute whimsical ribbon at the bottom was a wonderful way to add dimension. This is lovely and I’m so glad you shared it with us for this week’s Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog!
