Hey There! Card – Watercolor Resist Technique

Hey There!

I’m back with a new technique to show you from Papertrey Ink’s Make it Monday #240: Watercolor Resist. (You can watch their complete instructional video HERE.)

You start out laying down a wash of the lightest of your 3 colors on your watercolor paper and, once dry, drizzling rubber cement over it (If you’re real brainy, you can imagine the areas you want to stay that color (in this case, yellow) and make sure to cover them in rubber cement. My brain was stopped up from the cold when I started this, so I just randomly drizzled…

Once the rubber cement is dry, you lay down a wash of your second color…

Once it’s dry, you drizzle more rubber cement over the areas you want it to show through (or, if your brain isn’t working, then just randomly again!)…

Once the rubber cement is dry, you add a wash of your darkest color and let it dry…20160228_133327aW

Once dry, take a rubber square and gently start rubbing off the rubber cement…

Keep rubbing until it’s all off…

Now you can use your tri-color artwork for whatever you choose. I cut mine into flowers for a card:
