Flannel Coffee Sleeve & 100th Post Blog Candy

Wow, I can hardly believe this is my 100th post! What more fitting time for it to fall than for the Coffee Loving Cardmakers’ Winter Coffee Lovers Hop, as it was their Spring hop and Photobucket’s failure to allow comments that finally pushed me into the 21st century and to start this blog almost 9 months ago. I’ve been amazed to have over 30 subscribers and over 1400 visitors already (155 of you yesterday), leaving over 1100 sweet comments. I know it’s small beans to most of you seasoned bloggers, but it blows me away! Thank you all for your support and following my crafts wherever the whim takes me!

Today’s project are a pair of nice, warm wintry flannel coffee sleeves I made. One for a friend, and one for blog candy. (More on that later. wink-wink.)

I’m sure you can easily find tutorials on the net, so I didn’t bother with a tutorial. I will, however give you a couple of tips if found helpful to keep in mind…

  • Make sure you have your two pieces of material with right sides facing each other and the interfacing on top of the piece that you want to be facing out.
  • Remember, the wider the sleeve, the easier it will be to turn it inside-out after you sew up the three sides.
  • You’ll also note I cut my ends at a different angle than the sleeve I used as a pattern. That’s because I wanted them to overlap straight.

  • And make sure your hair band (a new one, of course!) is between the two pieces of material, with the connector outside your seam and the loop for the button toward the inside. (I goofed this up and did it reverse on the first go-round.)

  • Sew back and forth a couple of times over the elastic. Then when turned inside out, top stitch over it a couple more times to give it strength.

Materials used:

  • JoAnn Snuggle Flannel Fabric – Coffee Anyone by Springs Creative Products Group
  • Heavyweight interfacing
  • Brown thread
  • Elastic hair tie
  • Recollections button embellishments (remove the foam backing)

  1. D.Ann……Congratulations on 100 posts!!! That’s fabulous!! A real milestone. As a follower of yours, I really appreciate the time and care you put into your posts. From the wonderful card or project you are sharing…to the artful arrangement of your photos…to the interesting and informative anecdotes and personal experiences you relate…..to the funny memes you include (esp the cat ones!)……everywhere one looks on your blog there is something intriguing and inspiring. You are one of my blog heroes!!!

Love the warm, fuzzy flannel coffee sleeve! Since I live rather remotely, the only time I get coffee to-go is when we travel 2 hrs away to the “big city”…..population 32,000!!! Hahahaha… Even then, I hate to ask hubby to stop for me to get a Starbucks. I just look longingly out the window with that sad puppydog look and 1 time in 5 he gets the message. Lately, though, he has offered to stop before I even had a chance to put on a good hangdog look. He must be ill. 😀 All that to say that I usu make my own hot drinks! lol… Thanks so much for the chance to win your coffee sleeve.

  2. Ooooohhhhh…..coffee fabric!! How clever of you to be offering this as blog candy for your USA followers……of which I am one!! Yay!! Okay…..what would I make with this??? Well, the first thing that comes to mind is a little cloth coffeemaker cover for a coffeemaker I do not have……yet. You see, I don’t have very many countertop appliances because I have cats….you knew that, didn’t you! I don’t want wafting cat hairs getting in things.

I have never had a coffee-maker, per se. For decades I have made what I call “cowboy coffee”……heat up water in a saucepan to near boiling, dump in the grounds, and let it “brew” for a bit, and filter it into a quart jar. I make it strong like “cowboys” (and my hubby) drink and then I add milk and flavored half n half to mine. Sometime ago, hubby brought back from his mom’s house an old vacuum coffee-making contraption. I figured out how to use it and no longer had to filter my coffee. That was nice and faster! But the rubber gasket that was probably 50 or more years old finally gave out and I am back to cowboy coffee. Now I am considering an actual coffeemaker but I would need to keep it covered so airborne cat hairs would stay out of it. So, I think I would have a great excuse to buy a coffeemaker if I won this fabric to make a cover for it!! 🙂 Thanks for the chance!!!

  4. Oh my, how in the world am I going to resist that coffee patterned flannel? Soft flannel and a cup of hot coffee with lots of hot milk are just the thing to warm me up on a cold winter morning. Never mind that I’m trying to cut down on my coffee intake, because some days just call for nothing less than a cuppa joe! I would use this to make a soft pillow cover for my dog Toby who doesn’t drink coffee but likes to watch me drink it! Thanks for the blog candy and for sharing your sweet coffee cozy!

  6. Congrats on your 100th Post – I have made these in the past – they are so nice to have – I actually make my own coffee – I make Mocha’s – less sugar and use Cocoa and Silk Almond Milk – YUM! I did not see anywhere to sign up to follow your blog – but it is OK not to include me in the drawing as I can easily make my own – saw your creation at the Coffee Blog lovers hop and I wanted to comment – have a blessed day! Drink your coffee!
