Geometrics Fancy Cats Cards

The time has come for my final post of the Cat Lovers Hop. Wahhh! But, Wahoo-kachoo! We just passed our peak number of 149 entries from last year!!

It has been a week of the highest quality with the 4c’s … Cats, Coffee, Crafting & Chocolate. We make clarity, cut, color and carat jealous! Lol! (BTW: If you want some better chuckles, be sure to read to the very end!)

I’m closing with this pair of elegant and fun cards:

(Special thanks to my aunt for making that gorgeous cross-stitched kitty and orchid!)

I love how well that embossing folder goes with the geometric ‘ball’, don’t you?!

And on the inside are these cute bookmarks:

Since I cut the cats as a pair, it was easy to mix & match the pieces for a second card:

For the bookmark on this one, I cut a second one out of the god cardstock, but put the paper in reverse and glued them together so both the front and back are gold.

Which do YOU prefer? I kind of lean toward the black background.

Okay, it’s time for the final hint for my Blog Candy Giveaway games from THIS post.  Although you can only count it once, this archaic four-letter-word, meaning ‘a dainty or choice food, a delicacy’ can be found 6 times in the puzzle. Still having trouble? No worries, you will still get entries for the Bonus questions, whether or not you get the answers to #1 and #2 correct. Have fun!

Also: if any of you early birds have found some words you missed with the clues the past few posts and want to change your answer to #1, for the early bird may get the worm, but the late cat gets both. Lol! This morning I received the first correct answer to #1 and #3. Many of you mamaged to get #2 already. If anyone wants to change their answers, you still have time to resubmit a revised answer. : ) You have until 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time, Sunday, October 29, 2017 to finish up and submit your final answers via e-mail. Don’t forget to check back on Monday, October 30, 2017 – hopefully, before noon PACIFIC time for my winners and answers post.

Note: If Potential Tropical Cyclone 18 (likely to be named Tropical Storm Philippe) continues as predicted, we will have winds and up to 8″ of rain tonight and tomorrow. This usually wouldn’t be a problem, but coming on the heels of Irma, who knows what the power lines here will do. (friends just a couple of miles from me were out of electric a whole week (which sounds like nothing compared to the Keys and Caribbean).) Anyway, if my post happens to be late, you’ll know why. Best way not to miss it: subscribe to follow my blog!

It’s been a wonderful hop and my mind is already spinning with ideas for next year’s hop. (No hard puzzles, I promise!) Hopefully I’ll see you all back here way before then. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the funnies below!

Warm, furry hugs,

~D.Ann

Well, you saw that I started out as a crazy cat kid and then went on to be a wild cat teen… here I am today:

Actually – that’s our hop host Janis with her clowder of 18… I just Photoshopped my Bitmoji avatar in the picture. Lol!

I thought I’d close with a few fun things I recently found while surfing the net:

Papertrey Ink 10th Anniversary Celebrating… 2007 – With Gratitude Card

I’m happy to be back crafting cards again! Phew! This year has gotten off to a slow start. Today I have a card created for Papertrey Ink’s 10th Anniversary celebration – Congrats, PTI!! They have been reviewing each of the past years and the first entry covered their releases from 2007.

20170217_pti2007

I happen to have their sweet Spiral Bouquet stamp set and created this card:

20170217_170522_wm

The top of the card ends where the blue cardstock begins…

20170217_170940_wm

This is one of those cards that needed more space to lay the card out than the MISTI would allow and I used the We R Memory Keepers Precision Press which made quick work of the stamping and allowed repeat stamping in spots where I didn’t get full coverage.

20170217_170609_wm

I tried to get a close-up of the piercing done with a Dritz tracing wheel, but you can hardly see it.  You can’t hardly see the scored lines either, but they do add some extra interest. You can, however, see that fabulously shiny Crimson Copper ink!

20170217_171146_wm

I love how those Nuvo drops make such great hearts, too!

MFT Thankful for Wonderful You Kitty Card & We R Memory Keepers Precision Press Review

Hello my crafty friends! I have a sweet card for you today and a review of the hottest new stamping tool on the market: We R Memory Keepers Precision Press.

The card was inspired by My Favorite Things Color Challenge #57

20161115_mftcolor

and My Favorite Things Thankful for YOU – Spread Your Thankfulness post. In fact many of the current challenges focus on Thanks – like Simon Says Stamp’s Monday and Wednesday Challenges and MarkerPop!’s Challenge #108

20161115_markerpop

I happen to need a Thank You card for a dear friend who is always doing kind things for me… she recently dropped of lunch and flowers with some crafting supplies and chocolates to boot! Her sweetness inspired this card:

20161114_182508

That background was stamped using my new We R Memory Keepers Precision Press.(Thank you, MarkerPop!!) I’ve had my MISTI stamping tool (the Original size) for just over a year and a half now and I love it! Except… there are times I wish it was bigger. If I’d’ve stamped this with the MISTI, I’d’ve had to move the stamp several times because the closed, raised borders get in the way. However, with the Precision Press, I only had to move my paper.

20161114_183338

20161114_183413

20161114_183252

When my Precision Press arrived, my first thought was, “Oh, no! I hate those type of wrappers!” But as I looked at the back, I was pleasantly surprised to see they’d made an easy pull-tab to save you from getting out the heavy-duty scissors. Yay!

      20161115_083732    20161115_083810

The Precision Press had some minor chips off the edges of the plastic, which makes me want to be sure to be extra careful not to drop it as I can tell it might shatter easily.

20161115_084010   20161115_08392420161115_083856

Of course, the plastic on my MISTI is beginning to show cracks in it after only a year and a half, but it doesn’t affect its functionality.

20161115_142702

I made up this comparison chart for those of you who might be considering either of these fine tools:

20161115_comparison

You’ll notice I mention the hard surface as opposed to the cushion. I think you get a crisper image with a cushion. You can tell in this close-up that I pushed harder on some of my impressions on the background than others:

20161115_140111

Some have asked whether the Precision Press can handle the thicker, cling-mount rubber stamps. Yes, the lid expands/lifts up as you can see here:

20161115_140309 20161115_140241

20161114_183020

I was a little concerned about whether it would get a good impression, so I inked up this MFT background stamp and stamped it with both the Precision Press and the MISTI:

20161115_143936

They both did a fine job! The MISTI has saved me countless do-overs allowing me to stamp over as many times as I want in the exact same spot to get the best ink coverage. My only wish was to be able to do more on larger paper. The Precision Press fills that need at a lower price (and it’s smaller and lighter weight, too). I will probably still use my MISTI for simple stamping of clear stamps because of the cushion and the Precision Press for backgrounds like I did today and for stamping on larger pages.

Enabler alert: We R Memory Keepers is having a giveaway of the Precision Press on their blog this week… hurry over to check it out! If you want to get one,  MarkerPop! has them on backorder for $32.29 right now. (No, I don’t get a cut for telling you that.)

  • Tsukineko Versamark Ink
  • Hampton Art Embossing Powder
  • Copic Markers: C1, 3; RV04; W1

MFT Camp Create & Coffee Lovers Hop – Shaker Card

Welcome back!

Print 20160618_CLH

I”m excited to show you a double see-through shaker card with a summery coffee/tea theme for the final day of My Favorite Things Camp Create online summer camp featuring Spectacular Shakers. I also used Virginia’s View – All About Color inspiration.

20160615_100718

20160618_145011aW

I learned a lot with this challenging card! First, Color Box pigment inks are sooo juicy, they take ages to dry, even with a heat gun. They’re gorgeous, but they’re not made for impatient people. : ) I made several long, slow passes with my heat gun and tested with a paper towel after each when I thought it would be dry… Nope. No. Nuh-uh. Almost… Even when I finally was SURE it was dry and went to heat emboss, some stray particles of the embossing powder stuck, in spite of using a powder duster. I fixed that by purposefully re-wetting some areas and sprinkling more embossing powder randomly around the card front for a distressed, almost starry night look.

Oh, wait… you’d probably like to see the inside…

20160618_145217aW

Love that kitty and sentiment! Here’s a quick video of the card in action:

I loved the cool idea of a complete see-through shaker they showed at Camp Create, but wanted to make mine a double layer, so I broke out the Fuse tool. This was my first attempt at using it. I practiced all over two Ziplock freezer bags before I got good enough to get a good seal without melting the plastic. I like how the pattern gives me an outline of the balloons on the front page, adding more depth to the double layers.

If you want to see a step-by-step tutorial of this card with tips and tricks in the near future, let me know in the comments… If I get enough requests, I’ll do another one sooner rather than later. : )

That’s the final badge for the Camp Create. Now I have all 5! It was a fun and challenging ‘retreat’!!
