Stamp-a-Faire 2016 – Color Blocking – ‘Stay Crazy’ Andy Warhol Style Card

Well, it’s the final wrap-up for Papertrey Ink’s Stamp-a-Faire 2016.

20160723_SAF

After this you’ll have a bit of a break from me. Now that I’m starting to feel better, I’ve got to catch up on everything I’ve let go this past week. At least I had some fun crafting to distract me!

The final session was on Color Blocking – Andy Warhol Style.

20160725_215812

I had to step WAY out of my comfort zone for this, but I did give it a go. By the way, a helpful tip: When you’re using masking tape to block off already colored sections, don’t just move it over the next section as some of the ink will stick to it and be transferred to the next block. Ask me how I know! Lol!

Unfortunately I didn’t have the shades of red and green that I wanted, but it still turned out Warhol-esque. I cut up the sentiments and merged them together to get this saying which seemed so apropos to both this crazy style and the implied crazy-like-a-fox. I placed everything off-kilter to match this chaotic style.

Stamp-a-Faire 2016 – Pointillism Play – ‘You’re Awesome’ Card

Welcome back to yet another session of Papertrey Ink’s Stamp-a-Faire 2016.

20160723_SAF

This session’s theme was Pointillism Play, with an interesting video on Georges Seurat’s works, which you can see HERE.

At first, I was going to cut out my flower, but I really wasn’t happy with how it turned out. Then I decided to continue dotting around it until I came up with soft background that I was happy with, but it still lacked something. Then I added some texture with twine string and I like the result.

Supplies:

  • Papertrey Ink Floral Sketches and We Go Together stamp sets
  • Papertrey Ink dye inks: Aqua Mist, Hibiscus Burst, Lovely Lady, Raspberry Fizz, Tropical Teal
  • Memento dye ink: Dandelion
  • Recollections white cardstock and shimmer card.
  • Tombow Xtreme permanent adhesive
  • Misc. twine

Stamp-a-Faire 2016 – Mastering Drips & Splatters – Jackson Pollock Inspired Card

Welcome back!

20160723_SAF

Continuing with Papertrey Ink’s Stamp-a-Faire 2016, the next lesson was on Mastering Drips & Splatters, Jackson Pollock style.

I decided to pull out my Americana Neons Fluorescent Acrylics for an extra pop-art look.20160725_151009

I added some neon washi and embossing for texture and raised the sentiment up. I ended up with something WAY out of my normal comfort zone:

20160725_151207

However, the coolest part about this car is seeing it with a black light! A long time ago I bought a bunch of little black light pens to give to kids when I make them fluorescent cards. You can find them cheap on Amazon… it’s well worth it for the exclamations when you turn out the lights!

Supplies:

  • Papertrey Ink Big & Bold Wishes stamp set
  • Recollections black cardstock
  • Versamark Ink
  • Recollections Neon Rose embossing powder

Stamp-a-Faire 2016 – Masterpiece Inspirations – Monet ‘Note for You’ Card

Goood morning peeps! Can you tell I’m finally feeling a little better?!! What a nasty virus!! Hopefully, now I can get these last few cards posted. So brace yourselves for a deluge of posts today. : )

20160723_SAF

The next session of Papertrey Ink’s Stamp-a-Faire 2016 was Masterpiece Inspirations with the Team. There’s an interesting clip of part of the commencement speech Neil Gaiman gave to the Pennsylvania University of the Arts 2012 graduating class (here). Each of the designers did a fab and inspiring job of taking a masterpiece as inspiration for their projects!

I’ve always been fond of Monet’s works, especially his water lilies, which is probably why I also love the McKee Botanical Garden, as areas of it remind me of his pond:

20140621_091602a_wm

So, I chose to use Dawn McVey’s inspiration of Calude Monet’s Waterlilies as a springboard for my card.

20160724_SAFmonet

Here is what I came up with:

20160725_104226

I watercolored the background and, to add dimension and texture, I cut out the Garden Gild cover plate die and watercolored it, too. Then, like the true blonde that I am, I discovered my watercolored background was too small for the cover plate die cut. Argh! But with a little snipping, it was easily sized down and barely noticeable.

Supplies:

  • Papertrey Ink Make it Market Mini: Garden Gild cover plate die
  • Papertrey Ink Floral Sketches stamp set
  • Canson cold press watercolor paper

It was a very time-consuming technique, but I really love how it turned out!

Stamp-a-Faire 2016 – Gilded in Gold – With Gratitude Card

Hello, and welcome back to another fun project from Papertrey Ink’s Stamp-a-Faire 2016.

20160723_SAF

It’s been fun taking inspiration from the masters, and learning about some that I wasn’t familiar with… like Gustav Klimt, who is featured in the Gilded in Gold session. There is an interesting video on his work on the post for this session that you can find HERE.

Here is my finished card:

20160724_110002

I had fun with the gilding! I took a cereal box and cut out the frame, then just dabbed on the Liquid Leaf. (Warning: FYI, if you have any kind of chemical sensitivity, this stuff is strong… right up there with paint and nail polish remover.)

20160724_105754

It was SO EASY and I got a little on my hands which made me immediately want to play, so I gilded my nail. If this stuff wasn’t carcinogenic, I’d consider it for party nails. : )

20160724_105831

Of course, I immediately removed it – while humming ‘Goldfinger.’ Lol!.

Tip: If you don’t have gold cardstock, you can easily make your own… either gilding with liquid leaf, or dragging a gold ink pad across the edges of white cardstock.

20160724_105906

I used Delicata ink, which has an amazing shine. It provides an interesting contrast to the classic gold of the gilding.

Materials used:

  • Papertrey Ink Spiral Bouquet stamp set
  • Papertrey Ink Stamp-a-Faire 2014: Renaissace stamp & die set
  • Plaid Liquid Leaf – classic gold
  • Tsukineko Delicata Golden Glitz pigment ink
  • Recollections cardstock – white and black
  • Misc. adhesives and cereal box.

I’ll be back shortly with the next session’s card. See you soon!

Stamp-a-Faire 2016 – Starry Night Card

Welcome back for the second session of Papertrey Ink’s Stamp-a-Faire 2016.20160723_SAF

In this session, we were shown a cool way to do a Starry Night scene by blending dye inks, then using water and acrylics:

20160723_193223

I like the blotchy nature of the shadows… they don’t require real drawing skills, so I threw in a couple and their puppy dog, too. I dropped my brush resulting in a blob that serendipitously turned into the moon. Which called for a few moon beams dancing through the shadows. : )

This is quite a different method than the one I used previously HERE and HERE. I have some others bookmarked to try. Some day I’ll have to take time to compare them all and see which I like best.

There are some great videos on the instruction post, which you can see HERE, and this interesting and true quote:

It’s hard to catch the shimmery look the Mica Spray gave the sky, but here’s my best shot:

20160723_193357

Materials Used:

  • Papertrey Ink Big Hugs die
  • Papertrey Ink dye inks: Aqua Mist, Lovely Lady, Ocean Tides
  • Memento dye inks: Elderberry, Nautical Blue, Summer Sky
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Mica Spray – brushed pewter
  • Plaid Apple Barrel acrylic paint – Jet Black
  • Plaid My Studio acrylic paint – White
    • I used my Kemper spatter brush for the first time and I found the splatters were much more controlled than using a toothbrush or paintbrush. (I think I got it elsewhere cheaper, but can’t think right now)
  • Recollections white cardstock, silver glitter cardstock & shimmer card
  • Artistic Wire
  • Misc adhesives

I’m playing along with the following challenge – click on it if you want more information:

There are 8 more sessions to the Stamp-a-Fair fun, but since I have a raging fever, I doubt if I get any more done today. Perhaps I’ll see you tomorrow… Stay tuned…
