‘You’ve Got this in the Bag’ Spellbinders Gift Purse and Verve Card

Surprise! Betcha thought I wouldn’t be back today. Me neither, but my morning plans fell through and, after so much caffeine from the green tea yesterday I was up late last night fiddling around with another project, so here I am posting it.

Let’s talk about that cute Spellbinders purse first. That little purse, like any truly good women’s purse, holds a lot more than you’d think! Yes, the three Starbucks Via and two Ghirardelli chocolates all fit inside and let it latch closed just fine!

Speaking of the latch, I thought I’d gussy mine up and put a mini teacup charm on top of it. Fortunately, I just happened to have put it high enough for the latch to still work. (Note to self: remember to leave room for the latch to bend and fit in place if putting a decorative piece on top next time!)

I just love these beautiful papers from K & Company! I cut out some of the butterflies, wrapped their wings around a small paint brush handle for dimension and added some shimmer to them.

For the card, I used the sweet free digis from Verve Stamps – Thank you, Julee! (Click the pic or HERE to get them.) For those of you dinosaurs like me, digis are digital images you can print from your computer – like what we used to call ‘clip-art’ in the previous century!

  

I followed Verve’s Mojo Monday challenge sketch, too.

The double meaning of the sentiment with this gift set makes me giggle! I love how the shimmer on the blue butterfly makes it look like the real life Morpho Adonis butterfly.

The inside says: ‘May your burdens be light and your coffee strong.’ Hmmm… from this angle, that coffee with the lines reminds me of a kitty… maybe next time Julee will do up a coffee kitty digi for us… (hint-hint, Julee!!)

I used some vellum leaves for the ‘steam’ and added some shimmering bling to the sun.

Graphic 45 & Spellbinders ‘Great Hexpectations’ Green Tea Gift Set

Good morning and welcome to the penultimate day of the Spring Coffee Lovers Bloghop!

Today I have a sweet little green tea gift set to share with you:

I love those amazing Graphic 45 papers and that cute little Great Hexpectations hexagonal gift box! It could be cut out of sturdier tag board, but cardstock holds the shape just fine. You have the option of sealing the final flaps, or leaving it so the ‘lid’ can be opened and shut.

After all the fussy-cutting, the card was easy-peasy – I only added a little distressing to the edge and a little pop of Copic coloring.

Alice in Wonderland Card and Bookmark With Felt Mad Hatter’s Hat

Welcome back for yet another project for the Spring Coffee Lovers Bloghop!

I have an amazing gift set to show you today, and I’ll warn you in advance that this will be a long post. If you only want to see the card, I won’t hold it against you if you scroll down to the end. : )

For those of you who are staying, here’s the Alice in Wonderland Card and Bookmark I made for a friend who loves the story that includes one of the most famous tea parties in literature:

And, yes, that’s a picture of the real Alice – Alice Liddell – who was the inspiration for Charles Dodson’s books (You might know Dodson by his pen name: Lewis Carroll).

In case you’re wondering, the smaller book is Alice’s Adventures Under Ground and the larger one is More Annotated Alice.

Let’s start with the Mad Hatter’s hat that I made from felt. Since I cut it freehand, rather than draw you a template, I took a picture on a grid so you could freehand your own.

            

There’s some extra felt for the top part to make it end up fatter than the bottom. Place a dot of Fabri-tac on the felt and start winding the felt around a headpin with a sequin on it (to keep it from pulling through the felt). You will want to leave enough room for the full width of the felt when you get there. Once finished, use a dab of glue to hold the end. Glue the smaller circle on top and trim to fit. Glue the larger circle on the bottom.

You will want to put your ‘sash’ of ribbon on first, before rolling the sides up and securing with a dot of glue. (Ask me how I know! Lol!!) Then shape the top of the headpin into a charm loop. There are plenty of tutorials on how to do this on the net.

I cut off some rounded head pins for the hatpins, printed out the chit to tuck under the band ,and put some small feathers in the opposite side to finish it off.

Materials used for the bookmark:

That rabbit is just a little something I found in a bin at Michaels, but what’s cool about him is that, in true Alice in Wonderland fashion, he will grow up to 5x his size if you put him in water and shrink back when dry. I just pierced his ears to add the jump rings and glued on the clock with E6000.

The ‘drink me’ potion is just a couple of drops of water and glitter in a green flask.

Some other things I altered for this bookmark…

The glass cat charm needed a grin and, since the glass accents are dimensional, I pulled out my Pebeo Cerne Relief and drew one in. Once dry, I gave him some pearly whites with a Viva Decor Perlen Pen.

 

the bookmark itself was textured silver.

I wanted a mossy ‘grouting’ and bright cobblestone look, but the alcohol ink kept bleeding onto the green patina I was using, so I ended up going with the bright textured interior.

Spring Coffee Lovers Bloghop – Clear & Simple ‘My Most Favorite’ Card

Welcome to yet another day of the Spring Coffee Lovers Bloghop!

Leftovers! I always end up with a gazillion of them and most of them get tossed into a box to make up ‘someday’. I’ve looked carefully at my calendar and ‘Someday’ just wasn’t put on there this year. Huh! So I decided to ‘Carpe’ dem leftovers from THIS card a couple of days ago and use them up TODAY. : )

See the ‘steam’ and the butterfly? They’re from the cutaways from the diecut heart doily on that previous card. I just ran a gray copic over them and put some sparkle on the butterfly and they make great accents! And that teapot/coffee pot? Sometimes you have something you want to use and the colors just don’t match up. (See pic below for before and after.) I just pressed it into Versamark ink, poured copper embossing powder over it and heat embossed it. I had to do it twice and then use a marker to draw in a couple of lines, but I love how it turned out!

Newton’s Nook Spring Coffee Lovers Friendship Card & Post-It Cube Gift

I’m glad you’re here for another day of the Spring Coffee Lovers Bloghop!

This time I decided to make a sweet little gift set using Newton’s Nook Stamps. Their Inky Paws Challenge this month is to use this sketch:

Here’s the gift set I made:

Stamping the cube of Post-It notes wasn’t too difficult… just had to grasp them firmly so the individual pads wouldn’t slide apart! (they did separate just a little when I attached them to my background. Since I used an ultra strong adhesive, They’re not budging now!

    

I still giggle at the joke of ‘If friends were COFFEE (instead of FLOWERS), I’d pick you’! FYI, the backboard die cut is out of 2000# cardstock and I only put the cutting plate up to the edge of the die right before the pattern started again, so it wouldn’t cut the bottom. Then I took a paper cutter and cut straight on down 4 additional inches to wrap it behind and under the stack for stability.

Spring Coffee Lovers Bloghop: Docrafts Window Card

Welcome back to the second day of the Spring Coffee Lovers Bloghop!

Today I have a sweet little window card for you:

It’s another one of those DoCrafts Xcut folders that cut and emboss all in one pass – genius! By sanding the raised portion, it gave some contrast color and feels like velvet.

For the inside I colored some cute little DoCrafts Papermania stickers that come with some glittery bling already on them. I will add a sentiment when I’m ready to send this because it’s suitable for almost any occasion.

I colored these with a mix of AquaBlend and Spectrum Noir Metallic pencils. The metallics don’t blend with water and I need to get more gamsol to mix them better, but the AquaBlends blended well with water.

Spring Coffee Lovers Bloghop: Altenew Card & EDIBLE stamping on macaroons!

I’m excited to be back again as I think you’re going to enjoy this post!

Once again, the Spring Coffee Lovers Bloghop is on.

This time, I took my color inspiration from Altenew’s March 2017 Inspiration Challenge:

Let’s start with the exciting EDIBLE stamping! Once again, I gathered my supplies:

• Store bought macaroons (yes, I’m too lazy to make my own! lol!)
• Wilton gel food colors
• Sunny Side Up Bakery gold luster dust
• Wilton imitation almond extract
• Wilton food safe brushes
• Altenew Peony Bouquet and Oriental Orchid stamp sets

By now my head was too into the project to remember to take pictures along the way, sorry! One tip: I found it MUCH better to spread the gels thin onto aluminum foil and let them sit a while until sticky before pressing the stamp into them and then onto the macaroons. I think the thin and open designs worked better than the smaller, thicker lines and more closed designs on my previous project.

If you haven’t read my previous post, you might want to check out some of the tips (you’ll find it if you click HERE) I tried refrigerating them after stamping the outline, but touching the outline colors, especially the black, they still wanted to bleed. I found it best to thin out the gels with a drop of almond extract and keep the brush almost dry. The results were, in general, MUCH better this time:

This time I mixed the gold luster dust with some drops of almond extract and painted around the smaller orchids and highlighted the petals of the peonies for some fab shine!

 

Moving on to the card:

This fun DoCrafts, Xcut embossing folder makes a great window opening for the Altenew Dancing in the Rain window. Once embossed (it cuts and embossed in ONE pass! Woo-hoo!), I ran some Spectrum Noir Illustrator pens over the raised parts to add color. Layering one of the cutout butterflies on the window frame and having the 3d frame layered over the window stamp gives it so much extra dimension, don’t’cha think?!

The butterflies and one of the hearts are drenched in the  FABULOUS new Nuvo Glitter Accents in Fresh Snowfall by Tonic… it dries almost instantly for some great shine and dimension!

I mixed up the sentiments from Altenew’s Dancing in the Rain and Goals stamp sets for this fun sentiment for a rainy day. To make the view even drearier, I ran over the scene with a Spectrum Noir Metallic silver pencil.

Yep, as you sip your coffee and snack on some delightfully decorated macaroons on the rainy April Shower days that will soon be upon us, you can close the card and think of the May flowers that will be following close behind!

Spring Coffee Lovers Bloghop – CDD First Sip Card and EDIBLE stamping

It’s that time again — time for the Spring Coffee Lovers Bloghop! Woo-hoo!

I’m starting off with an experiment. I wanted to try stamping on cookies…. yep! EDIBLE stamping!! I started my experiment with some inspiration from Craftin’ Desert Divas Monthly Mood Board:

   

I stopped by the store and picked up some yummy spring colored macaroons – those small, circular, light-as-a-feather French confections (not the divine coconut drops). Then I gathered some supplies:

• Wilton gel food colors
• Sunny Side Up Bakery gold luster dust
• Wilton imitation almond extract
• Wilton food safe brushes
• Craftin’ Desert Divas Coffee Break and Peek-a-Boo Animals stamp sets

I tried spreading the gel food coloring mixed with a drop of almond extract real thin on aluminum foil and pressing the stamp into it, then onto the macaroon.

I wish I’d’ve had a food safe brayer. It was tough to get the right consistency and get good coverage. The black worked better – perhaps because I spread it thinner. (It worked even better after it had set out a while and gotten tacky.) Next came coloring. Any time I accidentally touched the black, the black color immediately bled into it. It was, indeed, a learning experience! The kids who ate these were way more pleased with them than I was!

A few more things I learned…

• Don’t press too hard or the macaroons will crack. The surface isn’t flat, so you do have to ‘rock’ your stamp… try to do this only once to prevent a double image.
• The gold luster dust makes for a TERRIFIC shine. put a little on the foil with a drop of almond extract, mix and pick up with your brush. When mixed with black on a stamped image, it makes a pretty  silvery-gold.
• On the pink cookie, I tried wiping the gel around, then stamping, then filled in the teapot with gold dust. The wiped areas almost look like they were airbrushed.

 

I then went on to make a card with the same stamps (and color scheme), adding in the Simon Says Stamp challenges for multiple layers/dies/stamps.

Tip: If you have a Spellbinders die, like this one, that is too long for your card, you can find a place to cut it and shorten it like I did. Under the next layer, the cut lines are hardly noticeable:
