MFT Creative Olympics Event 4 – Speed Cardmaking: Fabulous Watercolor Card

Well, we’ve come to the final event of My Favorite Things Creative Olympics: Event 4 – Speed Cardmaking.

This one was the most challenging for me as it usually takes me half a day or more to make a card. I read in Stephanie’s interview that she recommended having all the supplies ready. Based on how I did, I reckon that must be more than half my time battle. I usually color backgrounds like this with great care, but chose watercolor since you can pretty much slap color anywhere and it’ll look cool. lol! The most time consuming part of this was getting the little bits of the negative die cut back in place. Still I slid in in record time (for me, anyway) at 19:13! You can just barely see the gold shimmer in the outlines.

The inside says: That’s what you are… no time left for a pic. lol!

Materials used:

  • My Favorite Things Floral Fantasy Background & Simply Fabulous Sayings stamps (inside)
  • My Favorite Things Absolutely Fabulous dies
  • Tsukineko Versamark Ink
  • Recollections detail gold embossing powder
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Inks: Mustard Seed, Bundled Sage, Worn Lipstick & Wilted Violet
  • Coredinations white cardstock & Parisian nights pink card
  • Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue
  • Tombow Xtreme adhesive

I’m playing along with the following hops and challenges – click on any of them for details on how you can join the fun:

I’m happy to have been able to participate in all the events in this fun Creative Olympics! Thanks for all of your kind comments and support! Until next time…

MFT Thankful for Wonderful You Kitty Card & We R Memory Keepers Precision Press Review

Hello my crafty friends! I have a sweet card for you today and a review of the hottest new stamping tool on the market: We R Memory Keepers Precision Press.

The card was inspired by My Favorite Things Color Challenge #57

and My Favorite Things Thankful for YOU – Spread Your Thankfulness post. In fact many of the current challenges focus on Thanks – like Simon Says Stamp’s Monday and Wednesday Challenges and MarkerPop!’s Challenge #108

I happen to need a Thank You card for a dear friend who is always doing kind things for me… she recently dropped of lunch and flowers with some crafting supplies and chocolates to boot! Her sweetness inspired this card:

That background was stamped using my new We R Memory Keepers Precision Press.(Thank you, MarkerPop!!) I’ve had my MISTI stamping tool (the Original size) for just over a year and a half now and I love it! Except… there are times I wish it was bigger. If I’d’ve stamped this with the MISTI, I’d’ve had to move the stamp several times because the closed, raised borders get in the way. However, with the Precision Press, I only had to move my paper.

When my Precision Press arrived, my first thought was, “Oh, no! I hate those type of wrappers!” But as I looked at the back, I was pleasantly surprised to see they’d made an easy pull-tab to save you from getting out the heavy-duty scissors. Yay!

The Precision Press had some minor chips off the edges of the plastic, which makes me want to be sure to be extra careful not to drop it as I can tell it might shatter easily.

Of course, the plastic on my MISTI is beginning to show cracks in it after only a year and a half, but it doesn’t affect its functionality.

I made up this comparison chart for those of you who might be considering either of these fine tools:

You’ll notice I mention the hard surface as opposed to the cushion. I think you get a crisper image with a cushion. You can tell in this close-up that I pushed harder on some of my impressions on the background than others:

Some have asked whether the Precision Press can handle the thicker, cling-mount rubber stamps. Yes, the lid expands/lifts up as you can see here:

20161115_140309 20161115_140241

I was a little concerned about whether it would get a good impression, so I inked up this MFT background stamp and stamped it with both the Precision Press and the MISTI:

They both did a fine job! The MISTI has saved me countless do-overs allowing me to stamp over as many times as I want in the exact same spot to get the best ink coverage. My only wish was to be able to do more on larger paper. The Precision Press fills that need at a lower price (and it’s smaller and lighter weight, too). I will probably still use my MISTI for simple stamping of clear stamps because of the cushion and the Precision Press for backgrounds like I did today and for stamping on larger pages.

Enabler alert: We R Memory Keepers is having a giveaway of the Precision Press on their blog this week… hurry over to check it out! If you want to get one,  MarkerPop! has them on backorder for $32.29 right now. (No, I don’t get a cut for telling you that.)

Oh — I almost forgot I wanted to share the gorgeous sunrise at the beach this morning…

Yes, a cloud must’ve blocked the rays so it cut off a straight edge like that on the upper right. Pretty cool! If you follow that line straight down to the horizon, you can see three points of light in a semi-circle that are actually the sun trying to peek through the clouds. It’s not often I make it up early enough to enjoy this. Usually it’s when I’m in pain and can’t sleep. I grab a frap at Starbucks and go watch the glorious show and meditate on some scriptures and it helps distract me. So, if you’re not close to a beach, at least you can grab a cuppa and sit and enjoy the view – perhaps it’ll distract you, too! : )

MFT Camp Create – Monochromatic Magic – Simply Wonderful Cards

Long time no see! Sorry!! I’ve been down with another virus. Ugh. What a year. Anyway, I’m finally starting to feel like crafting again and just in time to join the final week of My Favorite Things Camp Create.

I am pleased to have replenished my stash of cards again and to have learned some techniques that I will be using over and over again. The first session in the craft cabin was: Monochromatic Magic. I couldn’t decide which layout I liked best, and, since I had enough panels to make two cards, I did them both:

They’re both the same on the inside:

So — which one do YOU like better?

  • My Favorite Things: BG Lace Background stamp, Simply Fabulous Sayings stamp set, and Herringbone Bricks stencil
  • Papertrey Ink Cardstock: Hibiscus Burst, Lovely Lady & Raspberry Fizz
  • Papertrey Ink Dye Inks: Hibiscus Burst, Lovely Lady & Raspberry Fizz
  • American Crafts Double Sided Tape
  • Martha Stewart Crafts Essential Colors Glitter: Tourmaline
  • Tsukineko Versamark Ink
  • Inkadinkado Linen White embossing powder
  • Misc. adhesives

I’m entering one of these in the MFT Camp Create Monochromatic Magic link up (still haven’t decided which!). If you’d like to join the fun, click HERE for more information.

That earns me the first badge:

I’ll be back real soon with the next session!

MFT Camp Create – Coloring on Kraft – You Are Beautiful Card

Welcome back already!

The next session of My Favorite Things Camp Create was Coloring on Kraft paper.

I love hibiscus and frangipani (plumeria) flowers… we have them in abundance in S. FL! I pulled out my new Irojiten Neon colored pencils… I think they’ll show up much better on black. Someday I want to try this same layout on black and compare them. As slow as I’m moving lately, don’t hold your breath.

Here’s the badge earned for this creative session:
