Newton’s Nook Find Your Paradise Tropical Kitty Card

Hello, and welcome back!

It’s hard to believe the Summer 2017 Coffee Lovers Hop is more than half over!

Simon Says Stamp’s Monday Challenge is Stencil It and Newton’s Nook Inky Paws Challenge #49 is a sketch challenge:

Here’s what I came up with:

Yep, when I imagine paradise, I’m definitely going to want a hammock!! Of course, I’ll want a jaguar or bobcat to cuddle with, too! >^.^< Can’t wait until they’re peaceful critters again!

I like how the embossing of the Art Deco diamond die kind of looks like sun rays! The shimmering cardstock looked more of a golden-orange-yellow on its own, but I still like the cool accent.

A couple of small details:

I love the shine of that BoBunny embossing paste on the fun Ocean Spray stencil! And the Flower Soft on the anthers of the Hibiscus stamens adds a little dimension. Did you notice kitty’s claws have snagged that cup, but are loosing their grip? At least it’s not going to spill on him!

This will probably be my last post for the Coffee Lovers Hop as I’ve caught up with my pre-made cards for this hop and probably won’t be able to make up any more. Y’all TRY to have fun without me. Wink-wink, I KNOW you will! Craft til you drop is the real theme of the hop! Thanks again for stopping by and for all your sweet comments!

One last bit of humor before I go:

Seriously Thankful Anniversary Card

Hello, again! I’m back with another anniversary card (if you missed the first one, you’re going to want to scroll back one post!!), a super sweet one this time:

Awww! I love the little fox curled in his mom’s tail!! I love how that Spellbinders die both embosses and de-bosses!

I added some sparkle to their fur coats and the butterfly…

Do you know why I especially love that ‘seriously’ die from DCAM? The dot on the ‘i’ is attached! Thank you DCAM!! I usually lose the dots from other die sets when they’re separate, plus they’re so futzy to glue down.

Yes, as you can tell from the inside, this was for my folks’ anniversary party. We usually go out for a steak dinner, but since we’ve all been sick and are still recuperating, I picked up some of their favorite breakfast items from Cracker Barrel and IHOP and surprised them with a cozy brunch instead.

Supplies used:

  • Die Cuts & More (DCAM) ‘seriously’ word die
  • Spellbinders Imperial Square Die
  • Lawn Fawn stamps: Jump for Joy and Mom + Me
  • DCWV shimmer stack red cardstock
  • Core’dinateion white cardstock
  • Memento Rhubarb Stalk dye ink
  • Tsukiniko Brilliance Pearlescent Rust pigment ink
  • Copic Markers: E31; Y28 YG 61, 63; YR 02, 04, 07
  • Black Sharpie
  • Pebbles, Inc. Pearlescent Chalks Jewel Tones
  • Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle pen
  • Misc. adhesives

I’ll be back in just a few minutes with a much different anniversary card that will make you go ‘Awww!’, so do check back! : )

closing out the year with a bang and two posts in one day!

Thinking of You Card With DCAM Stencils & Spellbinders Dies

Hello, all! I HAVE been busy, just not with crafting lately. I’m popping in now with a quick post of a pair of cards I made using Spellbinders dies and Die Cuts and More Stencils.

The November DCAM (Die Cuts and More) challenge is to use stencils and at least three of these colors:

That works well with Simon Says Stamp’s Monday Challenge: Trio-tastic.

And they just happen to go perfectly with Marker Pop’s color Challenge #109 to pick 3 of:

I decided to use one of DCAM’s new Two-Step stencils, using an ombre inking of Memento’s Rhubarb Stalk on the first step and some Gelatos mixed into whipped spackle on step two:

I had leftover spackle, so decided to tri a different angle. (Yes, I admit, it’s a vague and terrible pun!)

Inking the butterfly diecut with Rhubarb Stalk before removing it from the die added extra interest. I was pleased with how the Spellbinders curved borders die made a great banner. For dimension, I just folded the scallops up a bit.

At first, I was just going to have the butterfly on there, but it needed a flower. I wanted something to go with the banner, so I pulled cut a scalloped circle, cut it in half and folded it at each valley toward the center of the circle. Then I took a couple of Copic markers to emphasize the petals. You’d never know it wasn’t a flower die!

So… which one do you like better… the ombre triangles going straight across or the solid ones at an angle? I kind of like the latter one a bit better… glad I had the extra spackle that made me try it!

Materials used:

  • Die Cuts and More: Tri-Elegant two-step stencil
  • Spellbinders dies: A2 Curved Borders One Card Creator, Classic Scalloped Circles, and Wings of Hope
  • Die-Versions Sweet Wordlets: Thinking of You
  • Memento dye ink: Rhubarb Stalk
  • Copic Markers YR 21 & 24
  • Faber-Castell Gelatos – Gold
