Good Evening! I have a fun card made with up-cycled coffee cups to share with you:
We recently traveled to support some friends and family going through difficult times and I gathered a collection of coffee cups and sleeves. (We were in the boonies where Starbucks doesn’t exist.)
I used the foam cup as the gift card holder, added ‘Hello’ to the Hot Stuff sleeve and cut out its chevron, too. The McDonad’s cup required carefully rolling off the inner from the outer paper. If you just cut it and try to lay it flat, it will get fold marks on the design. (Guess how I know! Ha!).
I had thought to use it as a background, but the more I looked at those swirls, the more I thought of some of my flower making dies, so I cut around the swirls to make them into flowers.
I used Copic markers on the inside to make them match the gold and red colors on the outside. Then I rolled them up and glued the ends. Once dry, I glued them onto the center of those pretty Technique Tuesday flowers. Once again, I used Copic Markers on the gold glitter paper to made the red glitter paper.
They’re too stiff to curl down the edges for a more natural flowery look, but the outer edges are pretty cute!
I used a Starbucks sleeve to decorate the back of the card:
You may be asking… Where can I find that interesting tag die? You can’t! But you can make it yourself… I placed the circle die where I wanted it, then pressed hard against the back with my fingernail, tracing the die ridge up to where I wanted the other die and then did the same with it.
That gave me an embossed impression that I could easily follow with a scissors and cut.
I then cut a hole in the top to let the Starbucks stirrer through and just stuck it in the pocket with the gift card.
Supplies Used:
- Technique Tuesday Garden Flowers dies
- Technique Tuesday stamps: Coffee Break Seal & Pansy (Hello)
- Spellbinders Petite Labels One and Classic Circles
- Tsukineko Versamark Ink
- WOW! Pearl Gold embossing glitter
- Stampendous PERLustre Rose Quartz embossing powder
- Copic Markers: R29, Y28
- Core’dinations cardstock – wine
- DCWV Glitzy Glitter cardstock stack – gold
- Various adhesives and take out coffee cups, stirrer and sleeves. Misc. card base.
I’m playing along with the following hops and challenges… click on any one of them for more information on how you can join the fun!

Drumroll…. The moment you’ve been waiting for…. while posting cards for the Winter Coffee Lovers Hop, WordPress reminded me that I have made 200 posts. I think that calls for a celebration! I have two very small blog candy offerings for you:
The Technique Tuesday Coffee Break Seal stamp like the one I used on my project or the Taylored Expressions Thanks die. Both are brand new and come from a pet-free, smoke-free house.
If you would like to be in the running to win one of these, pay close attention to the rules: Leave ONE comment on this post before 11:59 pm Pacific, Sunday December 18, 2016, using the phrase Coffee Break somewhere in your comment. If you don’t have the word Coffee Break in your comment, I’ll assume you’re not interested in the blog candy (and won’t be offended!). Also, if you are (or become) a follower of this blog, you may make a SECOND comment telling me so for an additional entry. You may also receive one ADDITIONAL entry EACH by being a follower of my Pintereest account, @dannscrafting , or my Instagram account, @d.ann.c. Come back here and leave another comment with your Pinterest user name and another with your Instagram user name. Duplicate comments will be deleted. There you have it… you may have up to four chances to win. If you have a preference for one prize or the other, please let me know in your comment.
FYI: This particular giveaway IS open to International peeps, too.
On December 19, 2016, I will use Mr. Random org to draw a winner from the comments that qualify and will try to announce it here on the blog some time before noon PACIFIC time. Please come back and check to see if you’re the winner. The winner will have 72 hours to contact me with their snail-mail address or another winner will be chosen.

I leave you with a not-the-best-picture from our trip of a cool phenomenon called ‘glory’… it’s the circular rainbow that happens when the sun is directly behind you and the sun is directly in front of you.
Glories are often associated with another optical effect: Brocken Spectre… where the shadow on a cloud appears enormous.
I just think it’s awesome that rainbows seen from above are complete rings!

Such a FUN card!
And did someone say ‘coffee break’?!…Yay for 200 posts! 🙂

I love your clever coffee flowers! Great ideas to use the swirl designs that way! So funny that you were in an area with no Starbucks… I thought there were everywhere! Really must have been the boonies!

Yep, it was in southern Indiana. They had a Starbucks briefly, but it went out of business… Seems the farm folk couldn’t be convinced as to ‘why too strong coffee should cost so doggone much?!’ lol!

Wow, another fun and creative project from you…and what a great way to make a customized tag shape! The coffee sleeves from all over are a fun souvenir by itself but putting it to use in a gift card holder is even more fun. I love to recycle things to make more pretty things! So, before I go off to take a COFFEE BREAK, I do want to point out that your tag with stir stick (in your prize photo) looks very much like a guitar!

It’s too late at night to take a Coffee Break, but I’ll probably need an extra cup tomorrow unless I get to bed soon! Your recycled coffee cup card is so creative and fun, and I wouldn’t have wanted to waste all those coffee sleeves and cups either! By the way,is that a stamped piece of felt that you used, or did it come already printed? Either way, I love all those cute details.

Hmmm… I think you mean the foam coffee cup that I cut to make the gift card holder that had the cup and coffee beans in the steam? It does look a little like felt in one of the pics, but you can see it was one of the coffee cups pictured.
