Meoooow! – Cat Lovers Hop – Day 1

There are even a couple of Graphic 45 cats framed as pictures on the wall in Newton’s house. : )

20151025_221037aW

A ‘Life’s better with a Cat magnet, a foot of paw print ribbon and a couple of kitty embellishments for your next cat card.

If you’d like to have a chance at winning this little package, pay close attention: Leave ONE comment on this post telling me: What is your favorite type of cat?  before 11:59 p.m. PACIFIC time, Sunday, November 1, 2015. If you don’t tell me your favorite type of cat, I’ll assume you’re not interested in the blog candy. If you are (or become) a follower of this blog, you can make a SECOND comment telling me so for an additional entry. On November 2, 2015 I will use Mr. Random org to draw a winner from the comments that qualify and TRY to announce it here on the blog. I will be in an area with spotty internet, so if there is no announcement on November 2nd, I will announce the winner on November 10, 2015. The winner will have 72 hours to contact me with their snail-mail address or another winner will be chosen.

I’m joining the fun at these hops and challenges:

  1. OMGoodness, D.Ann, this is AMAZING and ADORABLE! I LOVE it! How on earth did you make the mini blinds?!? What a fantastic idea! Naughty Newton is wreaking havoc! My cats don’t do this to my blinds but one of them likes to chew on the cord and strings – so far he hasn’t chewed through because I have been lucky enough to catch him – he does this in my craftroom!

Thank you for your sweet cat-themed candy – Yay! Count me in! My favourite type of cat is domestic short-hair, preferably a brown tabby. Looking forward to seeing more of your kitty cards during this hop! I enjoyed seeing your kitty cup and decor too!

  3. D.Ann……what a FABULOUS card!!! So funny and so true. Oh, that mischievous little Newton always getting tangled up in things. I have a few kitties that are just the worst ones for ratting around in things at night……esp things that make irritating rustling sounds….like plastic grocery bags!!! Arrrgh!!

I totally adore how you made the the mini-blinds and also the framed wall art from the Graphic 45!! Love the photo setting you designed to showcase this card. What a lovely carved cat in the background. The pussywillows and cattails are purr-fect in the cat container and love the kitty mug. (I have a cupboard full of kitty mugs!!)

How lovely of you to offer blog candy!!! Similar to what Kitty mentioned, my favorite kind of cat is also a Domestic Shorthair (DSH) or a DMH (medium hair) brown tabby in either the classic or mackerel pattern. I go back and forth over which of those I prefer…..can never decide. I love the rich variation of colors in striped cats and am intrigued by the difference in texture of the dark vs light stripes.

  6. My favorite type of cat?? Are you kidding?? LOL As the mom to five, how could I possibly pick one type, but, in the spirit of the season I’ll choose black cats 🙂 I just got my first Newton’s Nook set and I am SO in love, I just keep coloring and die cutting the kitties!! Hugs!!!

  7. LOL, we’ve never had blinds in our house, so I’d never really thought about the concept of what kitties can do with them…. I’ve got to say I giggled at your card… so funny… love it – what a beauty! Love your weekend kitties too… had to send them to my 18yr old uni daughter!

  8. Hi D Ann, love that card. Naughty kitty, but so sweet. Favourite cat English Short Hair, preferrably black, cos that’s what we have. Nussi is 17 and starting to show her age a bit but still finds time to play and generally entertain us. Hugz

  9. WOW!! My eyes are practically falling out of my head as I stare at your fabulous card! What a creative and incredibly fun idea for a cat card. I keep trying to figure out what you used for the window blinds so please don’t leave me in suspense. Mixed media cards are not my strong suit so I always admire those who can create with multiple materials and make it work so well. Those cat posters cracked me up as well, to the point where I scared the dog with my laughter! As to favorite type of cat, the Scottish Fold has always appealed to me. I’ve never had one, but those round owlish faces always make me want to squeeze them!

    • Hi Karen – Ah, Scottish Fold… You’d probably enjoy reading Peter Gethers non-fiction trilogy of books about his travels with Norton, his Scottish Fold. That was my first introduction to them.

As for the mini-blinds… I cut a piece of textured Coredinations cardstock to the size of the window, then cut it into slices. Pulled out a few, turned them over and spaced them out and put a dot of glue on the ends about where the cord should go and laid the twine down.

While that was drying, I cut some 16 gauge wire from my jewelry making stash for the rod and found a couple of seed beads to serve as finials and glued them on the ends.

I laid the ‘rod’ across the top of the ‘blinds’ and put a dot of glue on the top ‘slat’ and folded the twine over the top of the rod, gluing it to the back side. Repeat for the other piece of twine. Once dry, I turned it over and wreaked havoc on the ‘blinds’ until they were messed up to my satisfaction and tucked my colored Newton in. A piece of tape hold him in place and only the seed beads are glued to the card. (so you can lift the blinds and see the scenery out the window… I cut a neat tropical scene from an art book.)

      Hope that helps. Have fun!

  10. Hi D.Ann, Thanks for making sure I got your reply by emailing me as well as posting here. Your instructions on how to make that adorable window blind scene are easy to follow and I even have all the necessary supplies! I also noticed that you used small square bookplate-type frames for the cat photos on the wall which is another wonderful use of embellishments that I have but never use. Still giggling over those funny cat posters!

  11. Such a clever idea and technique! Seriously love the look and having had a cat who climbed blinds your card and layout is a perfect replica of that scene. I had so much fun creating my entry and I bet you did too. The Newton cat stamps are now on my wish list! TFS Karen x

  12. D.Ann, I never would have found you had you not visited my blog and left a very nice comment! I simply love the card you made and am so trying to figure out how you created it so I can make one of my own. I have real life versions of that here.

My favorite, even with all the breeds from which to choose, is a domestic short hair, preferably a calico.

  13. Awesome card! Your execution of the details is fantastic and I love how it depicts real life for those of us living with cats. My youngest will play in the blinds when you don’t get out of bed to feed him.

My favorite type of cat… although I love all cats, my first house cat was a Himalayan and she had the best disposition. She was very sweet and loving and lived with me for twenty years. I would adopt another one with no hesitation.

  14. Awesome card! Your attention to detail is amazing. Not all my cats have torn up blinds but my youngest cat likes to mess with them to get our attention.

  16. This card is SO ADORABLE!! I love how the kitty is stuck in the blinds. When Newton was a Kitten I remember him running right up the screen of the patio door and then not knowing how to get back down and your card reminds me of that! So funny! Thanks for playing along with the Cat Lovers Blog hop! So fun!
