Good friends are like stars… You don’t always see them, but you know they’re always there!
This fab sentiment from The Cat’s Pajamas Space Cadet stamp set just needed a starry universe as a background for it and ‘the cat from outer space’:
How was it done? I referred to this video’s galaxy background technique and used the following Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Paints on black cardstock:
Antique Linen
Chipped Sapphire
Peacock Feathers
Picked Raspberry
Spun Sugar
Weathered Wood
Chipped Sapphire

Spun Sugar
Weathered Wood
Dylusions ink spray white linen
After I had it done to my liking, I saw this blog post and thought it looked SO much better with the gold which gave more of a nebula look, so I added some Martha Stewart Crafts Multi-Surface Metallic Acrylic Craft Paint in Yellow Gold & Titanium. I made 4 of these backgrounds in total, so we’ll see how the others turn out in future posts.
I tried embossing the sentiment in gold, silver, and a shiny purple on black cardstock and thought the silver would show up the best. It fades into the background more than I’d like, but if you look at it at the right angle, you can read what it says. I just didn’t want to cover the pretty universe with a solid label for the sentiment. I re-stamped the sentiment on the inside of the card with black ink where it stands out just fine. (I guess good sentiments are also like stars… you may not always see them, but you know they’re there somewhere! lol!)
I stamped Sprinkle, the cat, in his space ship onto tissue paper with Versamark ink and used Recollections Ebony Detail Embossing Powder and heat set it. The spaceship was colored with Dri-Mark Metallic pens in Gold and Silver and the cat’s eyes were colored with Zebra Zazzle fluorescent highlighters (liquid pigment ink) in green and pink for his nose. I then used Liquitex clear Gloss Gel Medium to adhere the tissue paper to the universe background. I expected the tissue paper to blend more with the background than it did, but I think it still looks nifty. It was a learning experience! The finished piece was then mounted on a teal card.
Of course, if anyone wants to question how a cat’s going to survive in outer space with his spaceship open, I would have to ask why they didn’t question the cat being alone in a spaceship in the first place!! : )
I’m glad you could stop by today!
